I never did but I have smoked a few cigars in my time. It's been years and years since I had one though... basically since Mrs. Bee moved in 2004.
Did you ever (or do you) smoke cigarettes? Do you worry at all about your LO starting to smoke?

I smoked for about 4 days in the 10th grade during my 'badass' phase. It was short lived. Neither DH nor I smoke, so I just can't imagine LO picking it up. I hope she never does.

I used to pick up smoking here and there...generally when I was unbearably stressed out (college finals, breakups, etc). Also, when I was drinking a lot, I was smoking, too. I was always able to stop whenever I wanted to, and never had a consistant habit. I haven't had one in well over a year, and doubt that I will now that the baby is here.
I hope that she doesn't start smoking. The only people in her life who are smokers are my Mom and Step-Dad and we don't see either of them regularly since they live out of state.

I've never smoked in my life.
My dad did when I was a kid, and I always hated that. I really hate the smell.

I tried smoking a couple times in my teens. It wasn't for me.

I tried once in college! I'm sure LO will try it in high school or college...I just hope she doesn't like it!

Not once. But I've lived in so many countries where EVERYONE smokes, that I'm sure I've smoked several packs worth of second hand smoke...

I used to take a couple drags off my friends when we would get together and have couple drinks, now I would never! it's so disgusting to me and I can't stand smokers. I hope LO never likes it!

Nah, I was never cool enough!
Though I have enjoyed an occasional cigarillo and swisher sweet in my past.

Nope never tried anything smoke-related. It doesn't appeal to me, but even if it did my eyes turn bright red and itch at even a hint of smoke so.. I can't imagine I'll ever be tempted to try it, health risks aside.

never tried it.
My grandma died from 40 years of cigarette smoking and I think it was the most selfish thing she ever did. It tore apart her family and sent many of her children spiraling into deep depression and even suicide attempts. I would never do that to my family.
I plan to be honest with DS on the effects it can wreak not only physically but emotionally, and I hope he will make the decisions to not even try.

No but I smoked a little bit of DH's cigar on our honeymoon...it wasn't my thing.

Never. Cigarettes took both of my mom's parents in their 60s. I'm not interested in leaving my family that early.

Yup! I was a serious smoker for about 7-8 years and quit three months before I got pregnant (we weren't TTC) just thought it was time. Now I LOATHE the smell and I hate being around it. Hoping since we don't smoke and have such a strong aversion to it LO will too

I've never even tried. I have asthma so I stay far away from cigarette and cigar smoke.
I hope my kids never even try smoking. I would hate for them to become addicted.

I had smoked from the age of 15-21 & quit for 4 years. My husband was a smoker when we met & it never really effected me, meaning I never wanted to pick it up because of him. Eventually he quit, then we got into a fight and he bought a pack so I bought a pack (that showed him!). We have both struggled off and on again for the last 2 years. I hate it & can't wait to finally be done with it again! My parents were smokers and my dad died at 63, I don't ever want my kids to see us smoking. I hide it from my neices and nephews and in-laws, im ashamed Although I think they know...

I smoked about half a pack of cigarettes when I was in 9th grade and over the course of a month.
Then a couple years later, I took a drag from a friend's cigarette. Haven't had one since.

I've never even tried. But I smoked a lot of pot in high school, so I'm actually surprised I haven't. I just never saw the point.

I smoked fairly regularly from the age of 15 to the age of 23, when my mother was diagnosed with cancer (and thought I might be pushing my luck). Since then, I've had one cigarette when DH decided he wanted to try one just once and two cigars with a family friend the night of Mum's funeral (which had been the plan since we found out she was terminally ill). I plan to buy a really nice cigar and smoke it on what would have been Mum's 50th birthday this Dec 31st and then have no plans to smoke in future. I can't deny that when times get stressful, a little part of me really wants a cigarette. I got through my anxiety attacks a couple of months ago without them, though, so I know I can get through it.
Do I worry about our children smoking? Yes and no. New Zealand has put ridiculous taxation on cigarettes meaning they are twice as expensive as when I took up the habit - and that wasn't cheap to a teenager. I worry about the health risks but I feel it would be hypocritical of me to tell them never to try it when I spent so many of my teen years smoking. And as with most things, I'd rather know what they were doing than to find out they were doing it behind my back.

Never smoked a cigarette and never will - the smell makes me nauseated and I hated when my dad used to smoke. I have, however, tried those little baby cigars Swisher Sweets before. It tasted like grapes lol.

Never. I think it's a disgusting habit and hated it when my husband did.

I was a smoker for about 9 years. I quit cold turkey when I got married (over 2 years ago). To be quite frank, I miss it sometimes but I do hate the smell of it now.
I do worry that my kids will try it...I was very curious, which is how I got hooked.

Never, and I've never had the desire to try. I hate the smell of it too much.

Never. My dad smoked growing up and I just never saw the appeal of it.

I smoked for about 6 years...an ex-boyfriend told me I looked sexy when I smoked (yes, in retrospect I realize how ridiculous a statement that was, and how dumb I was for going along with it, but he was a super hot Johnny Depp look-alike and I was 18 and in love).
DH hated it, and when we were starting to get serious he told me he thought 1 of 3 things was going to happen: 1) He'd pick it up (unacceptable to me), 2) We'd break up because he didn't think he could spend his life with a smoker (also unacceptable), or 3) I'd quit.
It was hard to quit, but it was an easy choice to make.
I won't lie, though, I miss it hard sometimes.
I do worry about E picking it up.

I smoked for about 10 years. I picked it up when I moved to France (surprise, surprise). Like @Rubies I sometimes miss it but hate the smell now. I would prefer if our kids never smoke, but seeing as they will spend their high school yeas in France it wouldn't be surprising if they at least tried.

I did for about a year in high school and then socially (ie. when I was drunk) in college. I haven't since I got pregnant a year and a half ago. I can't stand the smell now.
pomelo / 5321 posts
I've smoked twice in my life. Both times were socially and while drinking. I don't even know why I would do it. My mom has been an on-again-off-again smoker for as long as I can remember. I hate that she always smells like smoke and her car reeks. I have never let DS ride in her care because of it. I hope that DS will never pick up the habit.
pomegranate / 3716 posts
Only tried it once, and took maybe 2 or 3 drags of my friend's cigarette. Never had the urge to try again!
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
I did for a year or two towards the end of high school/the beginning of college. It tapered off to socially and while drinking. It was such a bad habit and I would take it back now if I could.
I really hope DS follows in his father's 'virgin lungs' steps.

Yep from 22-28 (last year).... I started late during college when I was dating my ex and also working in restaurant. My dad was/is a smoker and I hated it growing up and used to flush his cigarettes down the toilet (boy did I get in trouble for that!)...anyway, I quit while we were TTC and haven't looked back since.
I'm wondering how I will be after pregnancy, but hoping for the best that this is a life change and that LO will not be tempted...
