Do you smoke now or have you ever smoked? Why did you quit when you did? If you are still smoking, have you tried quitting? What makes you keep smoking?
I did when I was in college but just socially. I quit completely when I met my husband.

I say never but i did try it a couple of times in college. I couldn't figure out how to inhale properly the first time I took a puff, but the second time I tried a puff, I did inhale correctly and hated it! Never touched them again.

I have never smoked. My dad was a smoker when I was a child and I hated it so I have always been very anti-smoking.

Hmm, off and on during my 20s?
I picked up smoking when I studied abroad in France when I was 21. I was a "light" smoker in that I only wanted to occasionally, and even then I only ever smoked like half a cigarette. Then I came back to the States and that kind of light smoking continued in social/drinking settings, but then would get more frequent during stressful periods like finals. I'd "quit" probably 2-3 months out of the year for whatever reason, like working out more and trying to be healthy.
Once I graduated and started working, I became like a 2-cig a day smoker (I went through a Diet Coke and cigarette for breakfast phase, and then I'd have one after I left work or during happy hour). I still had 2-3 months out of the year when I would "quit." That carried on for a while, and then I was probably more like a 5-cig a day smoker during my first 2 years of law school.
I quit at the end of my 2nd year of law school when I got with my husband, although he did "agree" to let me smoke occasionally when I was studying for the Bar Exam.

I smoked for almost 6 years, and quit when D gave me an ultimatum. I smoked socially with my SIL after we got married (D knew). I've only had one in the past 4.5 years, though, about 6 months after E was born. I was with my SIL, and I was craving one so badly...I think I took maybe 3 drags and had to put it out...it tasted horrible, and made me sick. I still crave them occasionally, especially when I'm drinking out with friends.

I smoked for 7ish years. I quit when we decided to get pregnant with my daughter. Best decision I've ever made, seriously. It was life changing. My siblings (except one) and my parents have all quit smoking as well.

On my 19th birthday I bought cigarettes, smoked one, and threw the rest out because it was horrible. I tried a few more times in university because some of my friends smoked, but I could never do it - it was just always gross (I had the same problem with coffee)! I'm clearly a failure at picking up bad habits.

I never smoked. Never even held a cigarette. I can't stand the smell of cigarettes and I care about my health too much!

I've never smoked. My parents were big smokers while I was growing up and I always hated it so I never had any interest.

I smoked a pack day for 10 years. I started in high school. I quit cold turkey about 3 years ago and have never looked back.

My dad is a heavy smoker. My sister smokes and my brother smokes but I think it's so gross.
I tried a full Marlboro Red when I was in highschool. My sister, her friend and I each had one and then I laid on my basement floor in misery for an hour or two. I felt so nauseous and dizzy, never had another.

I didn't vote, because I don't feel like any of the options fit. I did a couple of times in college at the bar = drunk smoking.

I smoked a couple of times in university when drinking, but never sober and not in probably 6 or 7 years. No interest! I definitely did not love the experience.

Did briefly when I was in my early 20's. Mostly black and mild's, which are cigars, but some cigarettes. It was just kind of fun and relaxing, and got me more breaks at retail jobs. Quit because (now)DH hated them, and it wasn't like I thought it was a great idea anyway.
For whatever reason, quitting was absolutely no big deal. Used to have a drinking problem too, and had no issues quitting when DH put his foot down. I have this major addictive personality, but when I quit things I quit for good with no issues.
Fun story- when I first started smoking apparently I didn't know how to inhale (I blame too many years of only drinking through straws). One day driving home I figured it out, and I was so, I guess almost high feeling is the best word for it, I drove right past my apartment.

I tried for about a few weeks in high school. That's it.

I've hit my 30s and I have never smoked anything, ever.
No tobacco, no weed, nothing.
No desire to either. I hate second hand cigarette/weed smoke.

I did when I studied abroad in China. It was cheaper and was more of a social thing since you could smoke in restaurants. I quit a few months after I came back to the US. The cigarettes here are heavier.

No, never. A lot of my family smoked and I always thought t was gross. When I was nine, we went to visit my Nana and she was blue. My dad had to call 911. It left quite an impression on me and I decided then and there that it wasn't worth it.

@stiletto_mom: same. I'm not in my 30s yet but I never have and I don't foresee that changing. Never had any interest.

Never. I always laugh at doctors offices etc when asked...I have asthma and it would not end well.

I have smoked before (first time I was a freshman in high school.) I bought a pack when I was at a really stressful job several years ago and ended up throwing the pack away after a couple. I haven't smoked since (been 8 years or so.)

I smoked from 14-24, half a pack a day. Marlboro Menthol Lights. It's been ten years since I quit cold turkey but I still miss it all the time. I will have another cigarette again in my lifetime, probably when I'm a grandma.

I took like 2 drags on a clove in high school so I'd smell like it and piss of my boyfriend. It was worth it.
Weed is another story. Ha ha.

I smoked a couple cigarettes at my first party I went to in high school. Never smoked again.

Nope, I've never smoked. I always thought it smelled awful, and of course the health reasons.

I smoked while backpacking around the world in the early 2000s. It was a great way of connecting with people, sad as it is. My husband said he couldn't date a smoker so......it was one ultimatum I could totally get behind because smoking is pretty gross and I really really liked him.

No, never. I never had any desire whatsoever. My parents smoked off & on during my childhood & I thought everything about it was vile. Though, so did my sister & she's been a smoker now for many many years.

I did in college. First in bars and then more regularly. Quit after college though.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
I smoked regularly from 16-20. Party crowd, peer pressure, it felt so "cool". But I successfully quit and haven't had a cigarette since.
I still crave them even though it's been years. I have dreams sometimes about sneaking one and feeling guilty haha.

I smoked a few cigs in high school but really didn't like it and was just trying to be cool. Gross!

I've smoked very rarely, socially since college (like once or twice a year). Sometimes I will take a puff of my husband's pipe because I just love the smell!

I was a social smoker in college. Nothing like a good cigarette when you're wasted.
I used to smoke Djarum clove cigarettes until they were no longer available in my state.

Never smoked anything. I hate the smell of cigarettes and just being around the smell of pot gives me a huge headache.

@loveisstrange: djarum clove cigarettes just gave me flash backs!! Oh my gosh! I completely forgot the name until I read that.
I socially smoked in college (see above comment) cloves and some cigarettes when I lived in Europe. But I'm a total newb and I smoked like I smoked cigars and didn't fully inhale! I honestly didn't know how to do it. I'm a dork! Haven't even smoked a cigar in 4+ years.
