Growing up we always popped popcorn and strung it with thread and hung on the Christmas tree - but I have never met anyone else who does this!
Have you???

I've heard of it but we never did it. Just out of curiosity, why? lol it must just be tradition but who stared that as a thing, ya know?

We did when we were kids. I think we stopped because once we didn't have cats to keep the rodents away from it.
I would assume it's a tradition that goes back to when people made all their decorations. Corn is fairly inexpensive so it was probably easy to use as a decoration. And food was a popular decoration. That's why we have glass ball ornaments now. They last longer than fruit

@Mamaof2: yes! my mother still does it every year, sometimes with cranberries. after the holidays it would go in the backyard (we had a lot of woods behind our house) for the squirrels before going into the brush fire.

@MaryM: @Mrs. Sunshine: makes sense - most of our decorations growing up were salt dough ornaments and felt!
@rachiecakes: @Smurfette: fun!! Will you do it with your kids? I haven't yet ....but want to when I think they can handle the needle without poking themselves!

@Mamaof2: nah, we have a fake tree and live in the city. I don't want pine needles on our floor, never mind popcorn bits trying to take it off

We did, as a kid. We also used cranberries!!
I have great memories of doing this, and wish my family continued it!!
