Ugh, I failed my 1 hour glucose test Now time to do the 3 hour and see if I have gestational diabetes. At least this could explain the weight gain...?? Or maybe I have it because of the weight gain!

@mrs. wagon: Oh no! Well, the good news is most of the women that I know who have failed the first test pass the second one with flying colors. Something I heard about the second test - try not to eat any carbs that morning. Drink lots of water and have something with lots of protein like eggs and bacon (if you can) before you go in.

I failed the 1 hour and didn't even bother taking the 3 hour. My OB said he will only do the 3 hour if I was borderline and since I failed the 1 hour miserably, he just put me on the GD diet from the get-go.
I do hear lots of women who pass the 3 hour after failing the 1 hour. What was your 1 hour level? I think passing was 140 and I had 169!

@mediagirl: @banana: well this is promising news! The nurse didn't say what my number was, but she said it was "elevated" and that it doesn't necessarily mean I have GD. I'm not looking forward to the 3 hour test...! bah. They sent me a diet to follow for 3 days before the test and then i'm supposed to fast before the test. ANOTHER trip to the doctor's.....

@mrs.wagon: Oh, "elevated" doesn't sound like you failed miserably like I did. lol. Good luck on your 3 hour. Let us know how it goes!

@banana: lol thanks. I think she might have just been being nice though. Haha. I'm just reading up on the 3 hour test and it sounds miserable...!!! They prick you every hour! Ugh.

@mrs.wagon: I hear the 3 hour isn't very fun but seriously, having GD and poking your finger 4 times a day is worse!

@banana: true!! perspective, Mrs. Wagon...!!!! scheduling the test now... ugh, the horror...

@mrs.wagon: Good luck girl! I can't believe we're only a few months away from delivery! So crazy!

Good luck! I failed the 1 hour - I blame it on the slice of pizza I ate one hour and 15 minutes before I took the test. Passed the 3 hour test with flying colors. Next pregnancy....no carbs/sugar/etc the day of the 1 hour test!
The 3 hour test is no fun, especially for a pregnant gal!

@theknest: thanks! I took it first thing in the morning, no food at all, so I'm thinking that's not a good sign.
I just scheduled the test... forcing Wagon Sr. to come with me.. poor guy.

@mrs. wagon: make sure you follow the diet they give before! Its a high carb bad diet for a reason to check your tolerance! Dont try and cheat the test!
I have GD and am fortunate to have been diagnosed to keep my weight gain/baby growth under control. You got this girl!
PS I failed the One hour with a 176!

I just had this happen last week. Passing for my doctor is 135 and I had a 167. They didn't have me eat any special way that day and I did actually have a cookie that morning, which in hindsight might have been bad. lol. I just had my 3 hour last Friday and no, it wasn't fun. Drink TONS of water the day before, through the night, and the morning so your veins are hydrated. The people where I went were so good with me - they put me in a separate room in a reclined chair, and I read. Once an hour they'd come in and do my draw there. I hate needles, and it wasn't fun, but it wasn't horrible. What was worse was how I felt for the rest of the day. I was a bit shaky, really tired, nauseous, and didn't feel like myself until around 4pm and my test ended around 10:30am. Definitely bring food/water with you to have right after the test as I was STARVED.
Good luck with the 3 hour! I hope you pass!

I failed the one hour (nurse said my levels were "a little high") and ended up passing the three hour (I "failed" one of the 3 blood draws, the other two were fine).

Oh no! Hope you pass the 3 hour! I failed the 1 hour because I tested around Christmas. Too many sweets/carbs at the office.
I passed the 3 hour though!
Good luck!

I failed... probably because I ate a bagel that morning. I passed the 3 hour. Good luck!

I failed the 1 hour with a 132 (130 was the cutoff) and passed the 3 hour with great results.

My ob doesn't even do the one hour test. He has his patients do a two hour test because he says it is more reliable. The lab I went to was nice, I had a separate room with a nice oversized chair and the technician would just call me into the other room for my draws.

Oh no!! I hope you pass the 3 hour test with flying colors I was lucky enough to pass my first test with my first pregnancy...I hope I pass it this time

My answer is "other", and an annoying other. I failed the one hour by A LOT and wasn't allowed to take the 3 hour, just given a GD diagnosis. However I never, not one time had a high blood sugar reading even though I tested multiple times daily for the rest of my pregnancy. After my last visit with the high-risk doc who I saw weekly he told me I probably never really had GD. Awesome. If I ever fail the one hour again I will be demanding to take the 3 hour.

My OB sent me straight to a 2 hour test, which I failed, but only 1 out of the 3 draws. I followed the GD diet and my sugars have been awesome since. The diet isn't really a big deal to follow at all!

I never took a one hour...I went straight to a 2 hour. I passed! They also made me fast for 12 hours before though, so failing due to what I ate wasn't an option.

I failed the 1 hour and 3 hour and went through the rest of my pregnancy with GD. It wasn't awful, just an adjustment. It really was a blessing in maintaining a healthy weight gain during my pregnancy.
Honestly, the hard part was acceptance and then dealing with it post partum in the hospital before I was cleared of diabetes. The hospital didn't seem on top of it as far as knowing what I could eat and when I needed to test.

oh no! i hope you pass with flying colors!
i actually failed by some ob standards. i was 136. some obs cut off at 130, some at 140. but my ob just told me to eat better.
