My parents were both in sales, I am too. They were in the tech industry and I am in financial services.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I didn't intend to, but I ended up spending some time in Purchasing which is where my mom has worked for my whole life! It was intentional (I had to cover due to lay offs) but it was kind of funny having work stuff to talk about with my mom!

Nope, not at all... BUT, one kind of cool thing is that my mom went back to work after I finished my schooling and now she and I work on very similar issues from different points of view (provider patient communication issues)-- me as a physician and her as a physician relations person. I don't think she exactly followed in my footsteps, but our interests are similar!

My mom is a teacher (high school librarian) and I'm an elementary school teacher (getting a masters in reading). I guess that's pretty similar.

Yes - my dad is in Education, and so am I. DH is in the same field as his father also...different job, but same field. Interesting!

Yes and no. My mom is an administrative assistant, so I didn't follow in her foot steps at all. My dad was in IT and I'm a software engineer, so I sort of followed in his.

Nope, the whole point of us immigrating here is so we can have a better and easier life than them. My mom was a "seamstress" for many many years and my dad was a restaurant chef. Both were hard work and long hours.
I'm a Architect.

Yes! My mom was a SAHM until I was in 8th grade, and I'm a SAHM now. She's been a computer teacher since, and I have a degree in education. Maybe once the kids get into middle school I'll actually use my degree & become a teacher again too.

Kind of.... my mom has pretty much always been self employed & now I kind of am too. Then there is her working in ministry (well starting a ministry) and me working in ministry (her ministry) as well.

Nope. My dad is in real estate and insurance and my mom has had a bunch of different positions at a city housing organization.
I work communications, mainly doing PR and writing. It's interesting to note that although I didn't follow in the foot steps of my parents, I have an insane amount of cousins (on my dad's side) that are in the same field.

Nope.
Mom was a teacher, Dad was a salesperson. I could never be either! I'm in Tech Support.
My husband's Dad was a lawyer and his mom a nurse (before she became a SAHM). He is in banking.

Both of my parents are in the computer business. While I could, conceivably, do what they do and get my Microsoft certifications, I don't see the point. I'm not huge into networks and programming like they are, I can't rebuild a computer from scratch. I think I'll just go on with my English degree instead!

Eh... I'm a working mom like she was, that's about it. Well, technically we're both in the construction industry but she's a receptionist and I'm an estimator so I didn't really follow the same career path. Her job at that construction company is the reason I got into construction though, so that's kinda follow-y? Idk, lots of rambles, sorry... haha

Not even close. My mom was a SAHM for years, then worked with special needs children in the school system. My dad owned his own blue collar type business and was the boss. I'm an engineer, working for the man

No. My mom was in social work and then has been on disability for the last 15 years.
My dad was in the corporate world doing technical writing and then owned his own hobby business. Now he does online sales for a liquidation company.
I'm in the legal profession right now. I'm not sure if I'll stay in this field forever, but I have no plans to pursue social work, be disabled (obviously, who would plan that?), work for a huge corporation, open my own hobby business, or do online sales.

Not field wise. My father was a professor of philosophy, and my mother is a therapist. My father's love of learning, and my mother's compassion and interest in the lives of others really informed my life and career choices, though.

Nope. My dad was a lawyer. My mom worked as a kindergarten teacher/special ed teacher. I'm an archives/records manager. My brother followed in my dad's footsteps and is a lawyer.

Sort of. Both of my parents are entrepreneurs and run their own businesses. I don't work in the same field as them, though.
My brother works in the same field as our mom, but he works for a large company while my mom works for herself.

er... maybe kinda?
My dad was in the tech industry when I was a kid and now I do a very different, but also tech job.
So not really then haha.

Nope, my parents are in the medical field... they were baffled when I wanted to become a wedding planner and didn't think it was a good career choice. But now they are proud that I've built my own business!
