I'm VERY fair skinned but have noticed a super faint line on my bump. it almost just looks like I had on tights that put an indention in my tummy - its that light! But, I'm pretty sure it is a linea nigra. Did you get one?

I'm fair skinned. I have a very faint one that goes up to my belly button and stops there.

I am fair-skinned and actually had a light one before pregnancy. Then it shot all the way up into my boobs. I swear it got SO much darker after I delivered, too! Not sure why..

I didn't get it until the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy! But it faded a couple months postpartum. I can't even see it anymore and I have olive, asian skin.

Yep, fair skinned and mine starts at my belly button and goes up. LO is 4.5 months and it's starting to fade.

@sorrycharlie: mine did too, then went away after like 4 weeks. My OB told me it was because when the skin is stretched over the bump, it makes it more fair. After the baby is out, it, like, condenses and looks darker. He compared it to drawing a thin line on a rubber band with a pen. When you stretch the rubber band, it looks thinner and lighter, then when you unstretch it, it gets thicker and darker again. Makes sense I guess lol.

I'm 27 weeks and very fair, but no line yet! Hopefully it stays away!
@coacheswife123: A quick google turned this up, but I don't know about the validity. "Abbie Yabot, a lactation counsellor, offered this theory for the Linea Negra. You know how newborns only see the colors - black, white and red? The Linea Negra was designed as a "runway"/guiding line for the newborn. The newborn uses this line as a guide to find mom's areola (which also turns darker when you get pregnant) to nurse for the first time. Have you seen those incredible videos of newborns crawling all the way up to the areola of the mom? Nature is indeed helping us make breastfeeding possible. All we have to do as moms is to want to and persevere. :-)" This is from http://mommymatters.multiply.com/journal/item/163

I'm 21 weeks and still no sign of one. I have medium, olive toned skin. My mom didn't get one so I'm thinking I won't but time will tell! My areolas are suuuuper dark though (tmi? lol)

I have one, and mine is also slightly off center (or maybe it's my belly button that is...)

Nope, never got it. LO was born with it though, so I'm pretty sure she will get it when she get pregnant.

sounds kinda like you... I could kind of see something if I looked REALLY closely but I don't think I had one.

Yes. It is actually darker than my normal complexion, so it's pretty visible. That said, not many people are seeing my stomach these days.

Yup, extremely fair and I had the same thought as OP. I originally thought it was a line from my tights. It wasn't! It's really light though.
honeydew / 7235 posts
I had posted at 37 weeks that it was very light but as I got to 40 weeks it got darker and the line showed up above my belly button as well as below'
3 weeks post partum- still there but fading.
