I did not... and neither did my brother. But he applied to transfer into our dream school and got in. Score one for perseverance!
Did you get into the college you wanted?

Yes...but I didn't go
Not enough financial aid/scholarship as another school offered me. The plan was to do really well freshman year and transfer--but I ended up liking my college too much to leave. In the end I still got the degree I wanted (my college was affiliated with the university I wanted to go to).

I didn't and was really disappointed. I did get into my second choice which is ranked even higher. It's funny how subjective the admission process is.

I got waitlisted. It was Notre Dame. I went to William and Mary which I think was a better fit! But I reeeeaaaaaalllllly wanted to go to ND. No way I could have afforded it though!

I really wanted to go to University of Puget Sound, but there was no way we could afford it so I never applied.
I decided on Northern Arizona University, but I was top of my class so it was easy to get into.
Post-bacc I applied several times to Colorado State University, and got in for a different program than I had intended. My life has turned out way better than I could have planned because of that! I know I wouldn't be as happy if my original plan had worked out.

I got wait-listed at my top FOUR choices and ended up at my 5th choice...for which I am incredibly grateful because that's where I met my husband!

I didn't apply to my dream school. I applied to two in-state universities and went with the one that gave me the most funding; that was my favorite of the two. So technically yes. I was very pragmatic about the whole thing.

I got into all 4, but none were like...ivy league level or anything.

Well I really wanted to go to Boston College and didn't get in. But looking back it was a blessing disguise because the school I went to was a much better fit and I believe it's ranked higher than BC although both school provide an excellent education. What's even funnier is that I met my hubs in college and he had been recruited by BC and really wanted to go and it didn't end up working out for him either. Thank Goodness BC gave us both a thumbs down!

I did, but I didn't go. I'm from Fl and had always wanted to go as far away as possible, so I applied to University of Southern Cal and got in. I had to do a lot of work to get in, too. But it was going to be so insanely expensive and my husband (then boyfriend) and I were really serious, so I decided not to go. I don't regret not going, but I do wish I has gone out of state. Just closer and not a private college.

Yes! But not until the spring semester. That first fall semester I moved to the city where my university was and took classes at community college. I was so pleasantly surprised, I never thought I'd get in and had pretty much settled on another school!

Yes. I only applied to one school so thank goodness I got in.

@caffeinated: lol what? There are plenty of post-secondary options in Canada!

I got into the five universities I applied to here in Ontario, ended up at my 3rd choice after the campus visit, I now work at one of Ontario's 21 universities (not one of the five I applied to, lol)

@caffeinated: i know a couple people that left the US to go to college in canada, and both were very happy with their decision =)
i didn't. but i'm thankful that because of that i don't have any student loans left (for now!)

Yes, the day I was about to mail out my second choice application-I got my acceptance letter!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
Yup, I really wanted to go to there and I got in. My counselor said it was my safety school so I guess I wasn't stretching myself. I just really liked the school after visiting.

I was really lucky and got accepted to all five schools I applied to. Ended up at my top pick!
pomegranate / 3895 posts
Yes. I was accepted to all four schools to which I applied. But much to my parent's chagrin, I chose to attend the only one that didn't offer me a scholarship (but I'm in Canada where tuition is MUCH less expensive than in the U.S.).
@mrs. bird: My best friend is an American who came to school in Canada
We had a really high percentage of American students at my university.

I actually did. They skimped on the aid.
Then I got into a school that is widely considered a better one, and they gave me a better package. Guess where I went?
That said, I loved my experience at College #2. Many of my friends are from college (not from high school or grad school), and I'm so happy I went there. I guess everything works out in the end.

I did, but I only really wanted to go to one school in particular. Same school that my dad and grandfather attended.

I got into all 5 I applied to, changed my mind 3 days before the deadline. Sometimes I regretted not finishing my application to Northwestern because I really liked it, but I was SO over applications, and I ended up being happy where I went!

I went to my parents' dream school for me. I wasn't going to be able to afford the east coast ivy leagues that I wanted to go to even though I was able to get in. State universities are far more economical.

Hard to say. I had three top choices and got into 2/3. I went to one of them, so I was very pleased. The third I didn't get into I maybe wanted a bit more, but I'm not sure I would have chosen it.
Ironically, the other top choice I got into I didn't go to, but DH did. My choice was still probably better for me, but I sometimes wonder how different college would have been if we weren't doing the long-distance thing the whole time.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
Yes, but our school had automatic entrance if you had certain grades and test scores, so I didn't have to apply and wait to see if they'd let me in
persimmon / 1180 posts
I did but didn't go right away. It was an out of state school and my mom was not having it. I did eventually go after I got my associates degree though!
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
I got rejected by my top choice early action (Brown) and wait listed at my next four choices. Gah! I ended up at my 6th choice, Boston College, even though the other 3 schools I got into offered me amazing scholarships. Really stupid because now I have so much school debt. But I can't regret my decision because if I didn't go to BC I never would have met Wagon Sr.

I got accepted to everywhere I applied, but I think that might be common for University's in Canada if you meet their mark requirements?
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
Nope! I got wait-listed, and decided that I wouldn't stay on it. My #2 school gave me the option of coming up to 'test me out' for the summer, but I wasn't ready to go to college just yet! I still sort of regret that! The college I ended up going to was a bad, expensive match and I transferred to an in-state public university that was great- I work there now and met my DH there!
persimmon / 1081 posts
@Mrs. J: ha, northwestern was my first choice too! I got wait listed, but ended up getting into a better school (penn) with a great aid package. For some reason NW did not like to take kids from my hs. If more than one person got in a year it was seen as a fluke. And it was a big school (500+ in every class).
pomelo / 5132 posts
@mrs. Mate: crazy! My whole school was only 500, and we had at least three from my class go, not to mention whoever else got in. I was just lazy
pomelo / 5331 posts
Yep. I only applied to three colleges -- two in Chicago (one of which was the one I actually wanted to go to) and one in Tulsa (where I lived) because my parents knew I could get a full ride there. I got into all three, my parents were worried we wouldn't get enough financial aid for me to go to my school (Northwestern) but we did.
pomelo / 5178 posts
I got in to all three of my dream schools but could only afford one of them. Looking back, it was a good devision not to get 100 k in debt just for a BA, even if they were my top choices
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
I had visions of other schools but ended up just going to a trade school, so no not really.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@Beebug: Haha, i guess what i meant to say is that there aren't too many top school options compared to the US (We don't have the ivy schools, the elite liberal arts colleges, etc.), and it's not as competitive to get in, though i'm sure things have changed greatly since i went to university. I feel like getting into the University of Toronto isn't as difficult as getting into Stanford or Yale.
@mrs. bird: The biggest plus about Canadian universities is the tuition, that's for sure!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
I got into every school except one that I applied to. I never sent them my math scores so, they couldn't accept me. Oooops.
