Did you get ultrasounds before 8-12 weeks?

We had a dating ultrasound* at our first appointment at 6 weeks. Then we had them at 12 and 20 weeks, and have not had any since. We do not expect to have any more.

*We knew when I ovulated, so this was to confirm that baby was growing at the right rate to alleviate our concerns!

Last pregnancy I had then at 6.5 wks (Bc of a prior miscsrriage), 10 weeks (normally scheduled), 12 wks (nt scan), 16 wks (pulled a muscle in my back), 18 wks (anatomy scan), 30 weeks (preterm labor), 32 weeks (follow up from preterm labor). I definitely did not need the one at 16 wks!

I had one at 6 weeks because of prior mc and then I was considered high risk because of being overweight before pregnancy so I had ultrasounds at 8, 12, 18+1, 18+6, 26, 33, 36, 37, 38, and 39

To answer the initial question, I had an u/s at 5 and 7 weeks. I'm considered high risk so when this pregnancy is all said and done I will have had 10 ultrasounds. The benefits totally outweigh any potential risk- though my OB honestly hasn't even mentioned any, and they're pretty conservative about stuff.

As an aside, I also have/had a heart shaped uterus- initially they thought it was Septate, but after two appointments they got the shape right and by 8 weeks my uterus stretched a little and corrected itself. I'm still being monitored way more closely than a typical pregnancy, but so far at 26 weeks she's growing as she should and there haven't been any complications so far. Just wanted you to know it will probably be just fine!

Yes at 6/7 weeks to confirm the pregnancy- both times I went to the doctor they just had a look...a lot quicker than a blood test since they had the u/s in the office.

Wow I'm so jealous of all the early scans, my first scan was 14 weeks. It was the longest 3 months in the history of time!
My second scan is at week 19 and I won't get anymore.

I had one at 5 weeks due to spotting, a follow up to that one at 8wks, 12 weeks, 19 weeks with the perinatologist. Then due to my High BP and GD I had twice weekly scans from week 32 until delivery at 37 weeks. And there were two addl ones in there when I was hospitalized for BP issues but I don't remember what week I was for those. But I now have a happy and very healthy 1yr old so no issues with extra ultrasounds

It seems to be the norm in Canada (if you are low risk) to have one at 12 weeks if you elect to do IPS/NT screening, and then again around 20 weeks for anatomy scan. If you are unsure of your dates they may do one earlier on.

@lauraeabel: Oh that's nice! My OB hasn't mentioned that it can stretch out and correct itself! Thanks for that tidbit and I'm glad everything's okay for you!

Mine is an IVF pregnancy so I had ultrasounds almost every week from weeks 6-13 or so. I didn't have another one until week 20, and will have one more at around week 32 and possibly more after that if needed.

I did not have an ultrasound until 20 weeks, which would have been my last one had he been on time. I had two or three more after my due date to check fluids.

I went through IVF so my first US was 6 w 4 d. Because I'm having twins I've had ultrasounds just about every two weeks since then (at every RE, OB, and MFM appt). I was more concerned about missing a potential issue with their growth than the vague potential that that many US would be bad for them.

@snowjewelz: did they tell you how much of a dip you have? Had they noticed it before you got pregnant? I have a uterine abnormality & I've had a couple scans of it, 3D & the regular kind (not pregnant). They told me the measurement of the dip & where implantation occurs plays a big role in how much impact it has on the pregnancy. I have a dip & a small septum, they said they'd want to make sure nothing implanted along that septum & the risk of the heart shape varies so much, you don't wanna google (I did, it was a terrible choice!).

@mrs. bird: The weird thing was, I went to them in Feb for a regular yearly exam and they gave me an u/s since I told them I'm TTC. I don't know if they just weren't really looking that time. They also didn't say anything with my 1st u/s when I went in for the blood-test. My OB said she's not sure if I've had it all my life or not either, since I've never had any u/s anywhere prior.

I already googled it haha! The way she drew it, it seems like my dip is not too bad, but I def want to ask her about the septum and the implanting that I read too.

I had one at 5 weeks because of cramping just to be safe. He's 14m now

@mrsbird I am fascinated to know that you found out about a septum via ultrasound because I didn't think that was possible. (getting mad at the Dr. now...)

The septum I had was never diagnosed on an ultrasound. I had multiple utrasounds and a saline ultrasound after m/c and they thought I had (just) a fibroid or polyp. I didn't find out about the septum until I had a hysteroscopy to remove a tiny polyp and then the doc found the septum (and removed it).
......and definitely trying to stay away from google this time around!

I had one at 5 weeks due to bleeding, but we couldn't see anything. Had one a week later at 6w1d, and we saw a very slow, very tiny flutter of a heartbeat. She is 25 days old now!

@CatchAFallingStar: I was like 4 weeks! I called them right after I got the BFP, and they told me to come in for bloodwork and they ended up giving me an u/s then... Of course, there was absolutely nothing to see except for a beginning of a sac. I got u/s at 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks and then the next one is 12 weeks. It's super abnormal as I don't see many OBs that the bees go to that give so many!
