I'm getting it soon. I'm still debating on doing it at Walgreens or waiting a couple more weeks until my first prenatal appt.

I am getting one at work next week. My DH has never gotten the flu shot but since we are TTC I am thinking it might not be a bad idea this year.

Not yet. I'm waiting on DH's work to offer them for free. They will be soon.

DH and I both got ours at Target 2 weeks ago! I was so proud of him because he HATES needles. Our LO is too young for the flu shot this year so we're doing it mostly to protect him!

Just got an work email about our vaccination clinic and I saw this...
The Flu ends with āUā
Haha.

@NavyRN2012: yes! I don't really understand the reasoning "I've never gotten the flu, so I'm not going to get the flu shot". I've never gotten the measles, chicken pox, or whooping cough, but still got vaccinated against them because I'd like to try to keep it that way!

@hilsy85: My reasoning for not getting the flu shot, personally, has nothing to do with the fact that I have never had the flu. (I have.) Just so people don't think that's why we don't!
And actually, I was fully vaccinated for measles as a child and I got it anyway.

@coopsmama: definitely wasn't picking on any one particular person! Just don't understand that whole line of reasoning.
And how awful about the measles! Definitely true that vaccinations are not 100% (but I personally would still rather have the added protection). I wonder, were your titers checked when you got it? I wonder if measles is one of those things you need a booster shot for.

Scheduled for next week! My kids had theirs done a couple weeks ago. DH is dragging his feet (hates needles) but will get it done in Nov.

@hilsy85: I used to be one of the people that thought that way. I guess my mindset was that I had a really strong immune system (virtually never got sick) and even if I did get the flu, I wouldn't be impacted harshly as I was already healthy. I'm not saying my logic at the time is good or sound.
But once I had a child my mindset has changed. I don't want her sick and I don't want to be sick and unable to care for her.

They had them for free at work on Monday! Now I just need to drag DH to get his

Nope and I am not going to. The only time I have gotten the flu was when I got the shot... I also got the chicken pox twice after getting the vaccination.

@cyndistar3: my hubby isn't getting one either. He swears he will get sick if he does. He was mad at me when I breathed on him last night because I have the virus now too.

@hilsy85: I totally agree that reasoning makes no sense. Plus you can spread the flu without being symptomatic, so you're not just protecting yourself with the shot. I'm NEVER sick, but I'm around other people who are more immunocompromised than myself, and I want to look out for them

Yup got it at my OB's office. I forgot to request a preservative free one. Hmm...

@hilsy85: Oh I know you weren't picking on me but thought I'd clarify for all that that isn't my reason.
I'm not sure about the titers question. I actually only mentioned it because I was at my mom's house the other day and was looking through my baby book. My immunization record is in there along with a spot where she put my illnesses as a child. I found it interesting that I received all of the MMR shots on time as a kid but got the measles about a year later. I don't remember it though and mom said she wasn't that worried when the doctor said that's what I had because back in her day everyone had measles.

We need to! DH and I will have to remember to do it at Target this weekend. DD will be getting hers Friday at her ear check. My daughter gets exposed to enough crap at daycare, I don't need to put her any more at risk.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: My husband (and I) never wanted to or got the flu shot before. I got it while pregnant and swore I would always get it after that because my husband got a horrible flu last winter while I was pregnant and I didn't (still slept in the same bed, etc. didn't really do anything to limit exposure other than common sense. Every since then he swore he'd be getting it every year!
