Did you have a colicky baby? If so, can you describe and how long did it last?
One of the peds we saw (not a fan of her) - barely looked at DS and said he probably has gas and colic. Maybe reflux too. I'm not impressed with her diagnosis. The second ped we saw (in the same office) said if he does have colic, I should eliminate dairy, caffeine, and gassy foods. They both seem to diagnose and prescribe in such broad and general blanket statements. * I am looking for another office.
DS doesn't seem to be colicky like the general info I find on the web:
"Baby colic (also known as infantile colic) is defined as episodes of crying for more than three hours a day for more than three days a week for three weeks in an otherwise healthy child between the ages of two weeks and four months."
He did start getting fussy around 3 weeks, with varying days of fussiness. Some days he seems really fussy in the afternoon/evening no matter what I do. Some days he seems ok and sleeps a good amount. I feel like it could be gas, reflux, witching hours. But when he is REALLY fussy, I want to drown myself in a bottle of wine at the thought of this lasting 4 months.
ETA: I haven't done any elimination diet yet, because it just sounds like SO much (and I love me some ice cream).
What was your colicky baby and experience like?
:that sounds so terrible! I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I DO have to admit, DS does cry/scream an awful lot when he is not eating or sleeping. The cry-screams are what gets to me. Even holding/rocking him doesn't calm him down sometimes. I often wonder if I'm overfeeding him because it's the only thing I can do to calm him down. But he gets really gassy and chokes/cries from nursing too (forceful letdown issues).
What was the difference and reason for Prevacid vs. Zantac? DS spits out I think all the Zantac.
For me, it did get a little easier when I stopped trying to "diagnose" her and just learned to cope. I had a lot of help from my mom thankfully and I also learned that her fussiness was usually from fighting sleep and getting overtired so I transferred my obsession from digestive issues to her sleep.
