With LO1 we had, what I thought, was way too many visitors. It was one after another from when she was born for a good few weeks. With LO2 we had no visitors in the hospital, and very few at home. We learned our lesson the first time...rest, bonding and adapting to a family of 4 was most important.

too many with LO1. virtually none after LO2 - january baby, everyone had colds!

With my first we had my parents and two of my friends come visit us in the hospital (I had a c section so I was there for 36 hours). This next time I think I won't let anybody come. My parents will be home with B and I think it would be too hard for him to come visit and then leave without us. My one friend walked in and said "I can't believe how pregnant you still look!" less than 12 hours after my surgery, and my other friend showed up with her mother-in-law who I had never met before, which was pretty awkward.

Not at the hospital either time. After our first it was a pretty good slow stream of people.
After our second it was way too much. She was born a week before Christmas and dhs family came in two days after we got home and everyone pretty much camped out in our tiny condo from lunch time until 9:30. It was so hard for me even though they were as helpful as could be. Ah well.

@Bao: too many. Not in the hospital but since he's been born we've had 51 (!). Yes I counted. We should have done things differently and guarded our time a little better.

@Bao: no. we had maybe 15 people in the first week to come meet him (mostly immediate family). in the next 3 months, probably around 3 people who visited at all--but they came more than once. it was a weird time for me.

The first day, just my mom came to visit (my dad can't be hang out in hospitals because of his leukemia and my husbands parents live hours away). The second day we had 5 and a couple were back to back which was fun but exhausting.
If there is a next time, I'd still like visitors but would space it out better. For those first sleep deprived few weeks, I'd probably try to say no more than I did. Live and learn!

Too many with my first. I didn't handle it well at all! Less in the hospital with my second, but more at home--that was fine!

None in the hospital, but one every day since we've been home (5 days.) No one held held the baby bc they've been "sniffly" and unsure of germs, but the visitors we had today brought their kids and one of them had a horrible phlegmy cough twice
I was cringing inside and kept trying to move him away. I shouldve just started breastfeeding with a cover.

We had two friends who came to visit in the hospital and our parents/siblings. At home we only had one or two couples come to visit the first few weeks. I thought that was a manageable amount!

Only my parents, my in laws, and sister-in-law came to the hospital. All the grandparents came BOTH days, which in hindsight was unnecessary, and prevented us from properly resting. I will definitely limit the amount of visitation this time around, especially since I'll most likely have a C-section due to a previa. I'll need my rest.

Only a few. DS had to go into the NICU, so it was an ordeal getting visitors into the NICU one at a time. I think we only had family and just a couple friends visit.

A TON with the first! As soon as one left the hospital, another batch would arrive. I didn't mind too much because the days can get long at the hospital (I had a c/s so I was there for four days). We didn't have nearly as many visitors with my second To be honest though, I much prefer having the visitors come to the hospital than my house. It's hard feeling like you have to entertain when all you want to do is curl up on the couch, bond with your baby, and adjust to your new family.

We had tons of visitors from the moment DS was born till his 1 month party. It was crazy!! DS was in the NICU that first night so our hospital visitors didn't get to see him except through the glass window.
We'll see how things go with DD next month. Maybe not as many visitors since it's cooler and kids are still in school?

@Bao: I also had way too many visitors. I am going to put my foot down next pregnancy (if that happens). It was so overwhelming and I felt like I had to entertain. People can wait!

Not too many. I didn't really mind... Actually it was easier that people visit really early on since she was asleep all the time anyway! I mean, minus when I have to retreat to the room to BF.

We had way too many! It was the first grand baby on both sides so both sets of grandparents were waiting for us at the hospital. It was overwhelming because they were waiting for us in our family center recovery room before we were even release from L/D. We had everyone in there when the nurses came in to teach us how to bathe LO and go over a bunch of paperwork. So I wish we would have told people to hold out until we said to Come in.
Once we were home, we still had so much family in from out of town. So we actually traveled to a lot of houses and hotels to visit people - my husbands family isn't good at understanding that they need to not be an inconvenience. Again, a huge mistake. I completely broke down after a couple of days because I was so tired and sore and overwhelmed.
Next time, I'm telling people that they have to come to me and maybe wait a week or so.

@erinbaderin: awww, I can't believe they said that! I was a mess after mine...so puffy and just a disaster, which I didn't see until I saw the pictures. I'm glad my friend who visited said nothing.

We had 9 or 10 in the hospital and a bunch more when we got home. I loved it! It was so nice to get to see family and friends and show off DD.
