A friend of mine said she didn't get a mobile because she wanted her child to self soothe and not rely on anything to fall asleep. I didn't think about that.
Did you have a mobile for your crib?

Yep we had one, we usually just used it as a musical toy while we laid him in the crib while we were grabbing clothes or something. We never played it for him for sleep. No issues with sleep either, even visually.

We have one of these. It doesn't have noise or a motor, and it's really just decorative. He didn't notice it at all for MONTHS. When he was around 9 or 10 months old he started to enjoy looking at it when he was awake. He nurses to sleep and sleeps in the dark, so I don't think it has any impact on his ability to self-soothe.

We did. DS looked at it while being changed, not before falling asleep.

i had one more for decoration. We got it at like almost 7 months when i finally decorated the nursery and then he started pulling on it shortly after, so it didn't last long.

We do but it's more used as a toy and to entertain him. We don't use it to soothe him to sleep - and actually, it excites him so I don't think that would've helped anyway
We will be taking it down within the next few days - he's starting to get on his hands and knees and can almost reach it!

We did. But then realized he was too interested in it to sleep, so we took it down.

We did, but it didn't really make a difference for him. He was a terrible sleeper in general. Lucky me!

I made a ribbon one for DD2, DD1 had some lanterns above her crib, she didn't' need them. Neither made noise, but we did have a Sleep Sheep.

We did. He never really paid attention to the mobile part. Once he could stand in the crib I just took that part off and used the music part. We used it all the way up until we moved him into a twin bed! He loved listening to the music and figured out how to use the buttons to change it when he was around 10-11 months old.

We did, but it was purely decoration. I never turned it on to help him sleep.

Yep but i didn't use it much for him, only when I laid him in the crib to take a shower or something

We did, it wads perfect for entertaining her in the crib while I took a shower.

I made a giant one and hung it in the centre of the room as a decoration (no overhead light).

Her crib has a (homemade) mobile over it. It doesn't move or anything. And she wasn't in her crib until she was just about 6 months old. At which point she was mostly sleeping on her side/stomach anyways. She doesn't really seem to notice/care about the mobile.

I didn't use one for a similar reason as your friend - I've heard that bed/crib should be purely for sleep. At some point I did try a Lamaze mobile that had a light and slow flapping wings and LO got so overstimulated that he wouldn't stop screaming! Now he just snuggles with his Sleep Sheep and Jellycat lovey. We do keep a Blabla mobile over the changing table, though, not that he cares. He knows diaper time is for interaction with mommy.

We did. We used it to entertain her, not to fall asleep to. Tiny Love makes awesome mobiles with really interesting movement and my dd1 loved staring at it. I think its pretty neat too.

We have a Flensted paper mobile. It's geese and it just twirls gently. I never saw DS particularly interested in it, but it looks nice.

We have one of those boring black/white/red disc Montessori type ones. I like to think that LO "reads" it before she goes to bed. Definitely not too stimulating but sometimes helps calm her down to put herself to sleep. That said, she doesn't need it. Half the time for MOTN awakenings I put her facing the other side of the crib and she can't see it and it doesn't effect her ability to go back to sleep.
ETA: TBH she loves looking at the (non moving) ceiling fan almost more! Go figure...
