This is something I really want to do! I am sure I'll be too busy to take pictures, and I want great pictures so I trust no one else haha!
I am researching photographers and trying to compare rates and photography styles.
If you don't mind sharing, how much did you pay for your birthday photographer?
I think the going rate around here will be about $400 for 2-3 hours of shooting. The one thing I REALLY want is to have a CD And print rights to the images, and that can be hard to find.

We just has LOs birthday this past weekend. We had a photographer from 2-4 and we paid $85 which is including the cd of pictures and print rights. Around my area you can find someone who has a full time job but does photography on the side. Which I love because its more affordable and the two ladies I've had take LOs pictures do a great job. Definitely recommend a photographer at the part!

My sister is looking to pay $250 for 2 hours, plus cd and print rights for my niece and nephew's birthday in November. She might get more hours for $100 each.

Oh, yeah the photographer she's going to use has a full time job, and does photography on the side. She's very good though.

@Coco Bee: we paid $300 for 3 hours and received the CD and print rights to over 400 photos. totally worth it! i think nowadays photographers include CDs and print rights because it's much cheaper for them rather than printing pics or making albums on their end.
fyi: make sure to tell them what kind of photos you want, etc. mine took pictures of every single kid at the party. so grateful they did that because i printed them and sent it with my thank you cards :).

Not quite the same since I don't have a LO, but I am planning my grandmother's 90th birthday party 
We're hiring a photographer and paying $350. She's going to do some family portraits for about 30 min before the party and then stay for an hour or two to get party photos and my grandma's friends, etc. The price includes her time and multiple CDs with rights to print (she'll send a copy of the photos to each family member - so me, my sister, my mom, my aunt, and my cousin).

I didn't, but I think it's a great idea. I thought I'd be fine taking my own pictures, but I was very wrong and didn't get many good ones

I plan to ask our good friend who's a amateur photographer. He was at her baby shower so kinda apt to be taking photos at her first too don't you think?

My brother and SIL had this at my nephew's birthday. I don't know what they paid, but it was her friend so probably got a deal. As someone without a LO yet, I thought it was a little bit silly but a nice idea, but actually, they got some really nice photos so I take back my 'silly' thoughts. My sister did not have a photographer at her son's party and we don't have many good photos from it.

We're still aways out from this -- but we'll likely have my cousin be the photog! She took our mat pics and took pics at our baby shower and I love them!

My LO is only 4 months but we totally plan on having a photographer at his 1st birthday. Hahahah by "we" I mean I want it and DH will go along with it.
