I did! It was the only 1 of 2 birthday parties I had.
It was just some friends over in our basement and I think my brother ordered Chinese take out. I remember being so excited for it.
Can't wait to throw our girls a crazy sweet sixteen.

I had a birthday party every year until I was 18, but my 16th was small and chill.
I think I invited 4 friends, we had pizza and hung out!

Just a family dinner and sleepover with friends- it's what I did for pretty much every birthday

My grandfather rented a limo and took me, my close friends, and my mom & sister to Planet Hollywood. It was so much fun!

No, but my celebration was pretty fun. My mom, her bff, my bff and her mom, and another friend went to a dinner theatre. At one point they wanted an audience member to be Elvis or something. So my bff was the lead singer and our moms were the doo wop back up singers.

@locavore_mama: Yeah it was pretty awesome. My mom rolled down the window in the limo and asked a cab driver if he had any Grey Poupon.

My boyfriend at the time threw me a surprise party.

@Mrs. Confetti: so sweet!
@rattles: haha is the surprise taken out if there's already a party every (other) year?

@locavore_mama: Ha, my fam stopped parties after double digits, so it had been a while My best friend threw a party at her parents' house, and since my birthday is Valentine's, I'm used to everyone being busy doing their own thing.

Yeah, I had a surprise party. It was a surprise until like 20 minutes before. My best friend (she was older and had a car) took me to the mall to get me out of the house while the guests arrived. Instead of just going home she kept driving around my neighborhood and making weird, vague cell phone calls. She wasn't great at secrets.
And, one of my friends invited the guy I really liked at the time, and he showed up halfway through with flowers. As soon as he walked in my best friend's dad squirted almost an entire jar of mustard on him. I was mortified.

@Mae: haha mine was chinese takeout in a dingy basement. It was still an awesome sweet sixteen in my opinion! It was better than no party!

@locavore_mama: haha right. I mean I had a great time at mine. I just always think of "sweet sixteen" as being like, a "to-do" and all fancy or expensive or something.
(Prob because of that awful mtv show "my super sweet sixteen" or something)

@Mae: true, true. Maybe I should've just said a party on your 16th birthday? heh

I don't even remember what I did in my sixteenth bday! Maybe a friend came over??

Yep! My parents turned the garage into a night club. They let me spray paint the floor and walls! It was so much fun.

Nope! And not all kids at school had them either. I didn't even know it was a thing till MTV had a show about it!

nope, dont even remember what i did- i always had bday dinners out with friends, etc. at that pt. so that's probably what we did!

Nope. I don't think I knew anyone who did. It wasn't really a thing in our area.

Nothing too special. A few friends over to hang out in the backyard. A friend of mine had a sweet sixteen where they rented out a restaurant, had it catered, and we all wore prom style dresses. It was like a mini-wedding.

Nope. For my 16th birthday I wanted to go out to a Mexican restaurant with my family and that's what we did!

Yes! My friend and I had a joint party. It was at a local community center and we had a DJ. We thought we were so cool, lol.

@photojane: It's funny because I went to a few BIG sweet 16 parties, it was a popular thing apparently in BK. Not everyone could afford that, of course--and they weren't to the level of MTV's show.
