Did you have any friends having kids that didn't really want any of your hand me downs?

Some friends of ours are having a kid, and we offered to give them a bunch of our baby clothes and items. They were pretty unenthusiastic about it though. I was intrigued by their reaction. This wasn't the sort of crap that every parent wants to give away. This was the good stuff, and some of it was hardly used. Or haha, maybe Bee and I are like all parents... we think our kids' clothes are so cute, but in actuality they're kind of tacky!

In any case, I would have given my (left) pinky finger to get second hand stuff when Bee was pregnant with Charlie. I guess some people just aren't into hand me downs.

My nephews mother turned her nose up at anything second hand, even though she couldn't afford things brand new.

I'll be happy with anything as long as it's not super stained and it's clean!

@mrbee: haha yes! my very best friend took DS's clothes. we are practically identical style-wise, so I knew she would love and use them.
but the baby gear I've been trying to give away to my first time mom friends? no takers! I think I was a bit like that when I was pregnant with DS. I wanted specific items, I wanted everything to match and spent way too much money for things he would only use for a really short amount of time. Ah, if I knew then...

like our infant car seat & two bases? they were barely used and not even a year old, no one wants them so I'm waiting for a BRU trade in event, I guess!

This is a really interesting reaction, but I guess I can see that happening for people who are really interested in buying their own stuff or don't like used stuff. I love to get hand me downs, but rarely do since most of my friends are not as far along in the kids area. We do most of the handing down. I've started selling the kids' clothes lately so that I can get a little back..

Considering I bought half of the clothes for this baby from consignment stores, I certainly don't mind used things. I do have a very particular style though, so if people with a different style offer me hand-me-downs I might not be so enthusiastic.

Some people just aren't into used clothing. I am not into used clothing. I'm okay with certain type of gear but not big on used clothes.

Umm...I'll take your hand me downs! Or anyone's... Maybe they just wanted to be able to pick out their own stuff? I have a few things that cousins have handed down to us (toys, pack n play, bumbo, exersaucer, etc) and I LOVE that I don't have to spend money or registry space on them, but I said no to other items because we really wanted to pick out our own. You Bees have nice style though; I don't know why they would have passed on your stuff!

I still don't offer that much because I like to save my stuff for when we have another. But that's weird to me.... I always take the stuff and even if I don't like it I re hand it down to someone else.

It's not that I mind used things, it's just that I am PICKY- probably way too much so! But this is my first so I have visions of her being a tiny fashion icon, lol, and am very excited and particular about her wardrobe...I know that sounds snotty, and I probably won't care as much for #2, but my mom is a Garage Sale-Aholic and she sends me like a box of clothes a week that she picked up. I'm grateful, but a lot of it is not stuff I would have picked out for H, new/used/whatever.

We haven't offered ours to other people yet since we're having another girl.

I would love to get more hand me downs. I've asked my BIL/SIL for stuff but they've either already given it away, lost it, or don't want to part with it yet. Everyone else I know has kids the same age as mine so I can't get anything from them.

I was super particular about some of the gear we got, ie stroller, car seat and swing. Everything else I would have taken used. I did get a ton of clothes from my sister in law that belonged to my niece and I loved that. Even though some of it wasn't totally my style, I used that stuff when we were at home.

I'd be happy to receive hand me downs but so far no-one has offered us anything except SIL.
SIL has girls, but she gave us her old Pack and Play and Carseat (Not expired, and accident free).

The pack and play was so old and musty and wouldnt stay assembled, so we are going to get rid of it.
The carseat is ok but it looks a little dated. We're going to keep it as a backup for other cars, and bought a new one for our car.

As far as clothes go, I think hand me downs are a little easier for a boy. Like @princessbaby if I was having a girl, I would want her to be a little fashionista. I wouldnt want "baby" looking onsies etc. And no cartoon characters.

Since I'm having a boy, hand me downs would be nice. I'm sure there would still be things that are not quite our style, but I would save those for at home or to pass down to someone else.

It's a non-issue though because all of our friends with boys (not many) are trying for #2 and saving the clothes for them.

I offered some clothes to a friend and she enthusiastically accepted them. Gave her a ton of cute barely worn onesies and clothes.

I will gladly be taking hand me downs for most things (I've been eyeing my nephew's Bugaboo Cameleon!) but I have a friend who did turn them down. 1, she was (is) pretty picky and wanted to pick out her own things, but 2, she is planning to have 2 pretty close together, so she figured starting with new stuff would work, and most importantly (to her) 3, she didn't want to worry about stuff getting ruined and not returning it and things like that. She'd rather just buy it herself and if it gets ruined, oh well. So, I get it.

@Foodnerd81: The offer was to keep the items! No returns required, unless there were particular items they didn't want.

Anyway, no big deal. Just thought it was interesting!
