My mom didn't change her last name until I was in elementary school. I think she was sick of proving to schools that we were her kids!

My mom remarried when I was 7 so after that, no. It didn't bother me and I don't think it caused problems in terms of legal stuff.

I did, but my LO and I won't because I kept my name. We're planning to use my last name as LO's middle name, though, so at least it will be there somewhere

Yep! Haha. I changed my name when we got married, but I didn't start referring to myself as my married name until I had DD. Now I rarely call myself my maiden name!

We all had the same last name! Side note, my FIL actually took my MIL's name.

No. We had the same last name while growing up but she remarried and changed to her husband's name.

Yes, but I haven't changed my name. Hope it won't be a pain in the butt later, with the kids!

Yes, we all had the same last name and now DH, LO, and I share a last name.

Yes. But, I didn't change my last name until two years after getting married. Now that I have a kid, I'm glad
I did change it-makes things easier!

I didn't have the same last name as either my mom or my dad. I was a hyphenated combination of both of their names.

Nope, my mum remarried. Never had any issues with it though. And I kept my maiden name...hopefully it won't cause any problems for DD.

Yep...and I still haven't changed it! Not sure if I ever will...I like my name!

@Mrs. J: that's cool! DH took my name because his family is awful.
We all had the same last name.

@rachiecakes: That's like my FIL...he had crazy family drama, and his siblings were picking a new name, so he decided to take hers so the name would have meaning.

@rachiecakes: no way! Very cool!
Well my mom had 2kids in her 1st marriage so their ln was different until my parents divorced when I was in 3rd grade we had the same ln but it never bothered me once she changed it.

We did, my mom took my dad's name. I kept my maiden name so LO and I don't have the same last name and we've never once run into any problems - daycare, traveling, etc. no one has ever once questioned that I was her mom, or our relationship!

Nope--my mom kept her name when she got married. It was our middle name. It was occasionally confusing but not a huge deal. I also kept my name so LO and i have different last names.

We all shared the same family name. DH's aunts for the most part kept their maiden name. It might be part of Vietnamese tradition? I took DH's name while I was pregnant with DS, and I'm glad I changed it.
nectarine / 2163 posts
We did. Even after my parents divorced she still kept his name, she said so she would have the same name as us. Now DH, LO and I all share a last name. I never considered doing anything else
pear / 1812 posts
Yep. And our kids and I will share a lady name too. I never wanted it any other way. I always looked forward to becoming a Mrs.
bananas / 9628 posts
Nope, she hyphenated hers. My brother & I had just my dad's last name.

My family growing up all had the same last name, but our family now doesn't because I kept my name

My family all had the same name. But I kept my name and so DD and I don't share the same family name.
pineapple / 12526 posts
Yep, and still do since I didn't change my name! lol. I may end up hyphenating, we'll see what happens when we're back in the states and out of the military.
honeydew / 7283 posts
My mom kept her maiden name but she would answer to either (our friends would call her mrs.mylastname, etc) and she didn't care. It never seemed like a big deal to me. I took DH's name but I think it would have been fine either way.

Yup, we all had the same last name. Even after my parents divorced, my mom still kept her married name, she said it would just be easier than having to explain.
