We had our infant seat checked by one of the carseat professionals at the hospital. We have to take my car to the fire station soon to get the convertible seat checked out.

We had ours checked by the CA Highway Patrol in our area. They made some minor adjustments for us.

@autumnlove: Same! They installed both car seats twice. We installed it ourselves and they made minor adjustments.
I would definitely recommend doing this. It was so easy and it only took around 30 minutes.

We had ours inspected by people at the hospital who were certified car seat technicians as well as nurses.

We had ours installed and inspected by the car seat technician on the police dept my husband works for. It was great because he showed us a lot of little tips and tricks, and then uninstalled it and made us re-install it ourselves. I definitely feel more confident about it because of him!

We get all our car seats installed by a professional. They can get the infant seat so much more secure than we can and they were better at getting the right angle on our convertible seat. I love the peace of mind it gives me.

Never did. Maybe I should get it checked out this weekend.

Yes, I went to a clinic at the hospital. They had RNs who were state certified in car seat installation do it. My husband wouldn't go, so my dad came with me (to drive my DH's car)... he thought it was silly too at first, but actually felt like it was worthwhile when all was said and done.

One of my close friends is acertified carseat technician. She helped me pick my seat based off the kind of car we have and DS's measurements. And she helped me install it. Anyone interested in finding a tech to help them can on safekids.org

We had our bases installed by the police dept. Then at the hospital, they took the car seat from us to inspect it before we left -it's mandatory at our hospital.

Wow, I didn't know you could get your car seat inspected by a technician!! A search on that safekids.org site told me my local police station could do it. Do you set up an appointment?? Or just show up?

@MrsLilybugg: At our police department you just call and make sure the tech is working that day! Its usually an officer who has the certification. In our area they will even come to your home instead of having you drive to the station.

@MrsLilybugg: Our local police stations have schedules - some do it every other Sat, etc. We just called to make sure they were able to accommodate us.

We had it checked by a police officer I thought. Maybe it was a fire sation. DH went alone because I wasn't feeling well when he went, so I just put professional when I answered.
We are glad we did! DH made a good effort but he did it wrong. Also the professional gave DH good tips. Like making sure you have your childs name on the car seat somewhere and your name just in case.

Our infant seat was checked by someone at the hospital, but we have not had the convertible carseat checked. My husband is pretty crazy about making sure it's secure, though, so I think we're ok.

We had ours checked at the police station. In my county there's one voice mail number to call for the whole county. Then you wait to hear back from your local FD or PD. It took about two weeks of phone calls and emails to get an appointment -- argh to budget cuts. The local AAA has inspections monthly.
We were told we had to bring the car seat manual and car manual but the officer didn't look at them.

I would have had it checked, but couldn't find anywhere convenient to do so! I think and hope it's pretty secure.

We rented our infant capsule from the Ambulance Service in our [Australian] state, so they installed it when we picked it up. Infant capsules only go up to six months max (hence renting for $75 as opposed to buying for $250+) so we bought a convertible when LO was five months old but have not had that checked. We meant to but the wait list was about three months so we just said forget it.

We installed both our infant and convertible seats wrong, but had them checked at the fire department.
They fixed it for us both times. I'm so glad we made the appointments, well worth the 15 minutes out of my day to know our little guy is as safe as possible.

Not the first one. That one we spent a lot of time checking and double checking, though.
The second one was the britax advocate and I wasn't about to have spent all that money on a carseat that wasn't going to be correctly installed. I wanted it to work as well as it possibly could. We went to a police station, and it was free!
