She doesn't watch the news so she has no idea what it is right now. I don't think she needs to know anything about it, honestly. When she gets older, then we will explain it to her including our feelings at the time it happened and how it changed our country.

He doesn't know what it is right now since he's only 3. When he's older, I'll certainly talk with him about where I was when everything happened.

I would just provide simple statements, those are usually satisfying to kids at this age.

9/11 hasn't come up specifically because we are so far away from it. But war in general has come up and I explained about the refugee situation here and why these people are leaving their countries. For now I use fairly broad statements and frame it in kind of a good guy vs. bad guy way.
