It was a lame proposal, but appropriate for us. He just pushed an engagement ring towards me and gave me the thumbs up. He wasn't even looking at me, his face was in his arms while sitting at my parent's kitchen table. A little later I made him ask me if I would marry him!

@FutureMrsMcK: The exact same thing happened to us! He was waiting for me to put it on myself! I had to tell him. There was definitely some one knee action though.

Yes, under the Eiffel Tower at night, right when it started sparkling!!

The first time he proposed in the car, in front of the Holland Tunnel, while hung over, when we were driving to my MIL's house. Apparently my first response was, "Are you serious?" So, no.
Then we went ring shopping, and he got down on one knee and re-proposed when he brought my ring home. After that we called everyone with the news.

Yes. He proposed on blended knee in front of a noisy waterfall. I still have no idea what he said.

No, we agreed we were getting married that year and he said I could start making wedding plans. Six weeks later & still no ring/ proposal, I asked if we should go shopping for rings together & he said yes, so we did. I kinda expected a proposal once he had the ring but no. I was brushing my teeth before going to see girlfriends out of town. He sticks the ring in my face and says he knew I would want to show the girls. Oh well, that's him & I love him, proposal or not!

No, and if he had that would have made me super uncomfortable. It was more of a mutual decision, although he DID actually ask "will you marry me?"

Yup!
We decide to get married and even went ring shopping together. DH wanted there to be some element of surprise to the engagement, though, so even though I knew he was going to propose I had no idea when.
We went to Las Vegas with a large group of people in may 2007 and he proposed to me half way through the trip. He did get down on one knee!

Yes, right on the East River with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background.

Yes! He went down on one knee at first then both knees because it was so rocky and uneven.

@mrs. bird: that kind of sounds like my proposal. He told me he had a present for me and held the ring out and I made him actually say the words...lol. Also sitting on the bed. Lol.

Nope, he was so nervous he didn't propose traditionally at all. One weekend morning while still in bed, he went out of the room then came back in with a ring box and he looked like he was going to cry (or throw up), handed me the ring and didn't say anything at all. I said "uh, what is this?" and he managed to stammer out that he wanted to get married, and was wondering if I wanted to get married too. LOL we never talked about marriage beforehand, so I was completely surprised!

@littlek: It was . . . what broke the moment a little was when DH said *well, aren't you gonna look at it?* He wanted me to see my ring, and I was just so happy that he proposed that I hadn't looked at what he put on my hand.

@JamieLee: I made him ask too! He said something about the wife in the household, and I told him there were no wives here in a very unpleasant tone while continuing to read the paper, he fussed with something next to the bed & then said, 'well there is now' when I looked past the paper he had gotten out a ring, I replied, 'well are you gonna at least ASK?!?' haha. And then he got to have a beer in the morning, lol. I took this pic right after, he was a scruffy mess! I'm not in it as I was nekkid! I hope you were at least clothed for the proposal
nectarine / 2163 posts
nope! i'm not sure it even counted as a proposal we ordered the ring online together (can't buy moissanite in person in NZ) and checked the tracking every day together for the THREE WEEKS it took to arrive. It arrived while I was at school, and when I got home that night he told me I couldn't see it until I passed a quiz. the quiz was "will you marry me" said in a whisper while he was sitting on his bed, because we didn't want to wake his room mate up. Lol! Epically unromantic

@mrs. bird: love it! Haha. I believe I was in pajamas. But it was like midnight or something.

@Mrs. Pen: Aw so sweet!
Yes, I had to tell him to stand up because he wouldn't until I said yes!

@Mrs. Pen: Love that pic! Very sweet.
I honestly had to think about it for a second but yeah dh did! I can't believe I had to think about it to remember...we've only been married three years.

Nope, we were in a helicopter! Though he's not very traditional so I'm not sure he would have anyway.
pear / 1723 posts
Nope. Apparently it's not traditional in dh's culture...it's preferred to start things off on 'equal footing'. I was kind of disappointed at first, but once he explained, I appreciate the sentiment.

@cascademom: That's awesome! I love Christmas, and I can imagine how extra special that made it!
@travellingbee: aw!
@Meridian: Wow!
My DH did. We were all singing Karaoke in his parents' basement, and we had just sung, "You're the one that I Want" from Grease together. We did awful and I just wanted to sit down, but he got down on one knee and said "You're the one that I want..forEVER!" lol Then some other stuff that I totally forget.
And it's all on video!

Yes he did. And he just proposed in our apartment, just the two of us.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: It was really special. I was such a brat that day too. I wanted to wear pajamas for opening up gifts, but had to change. I picked the ugliest sweater I had off of the floor for it. My mom wanted to take pictures which is so rare, so it was weird all around. Everything leading up to it was weird. I didn't notice any of it until after.

Yes, he absolutely just had to go hiking in Sedona that weekend... and I had a bad cold and felt like crap, it was stormy out, and I proceeded to complain for the entire 1 1/2 hour drive.
He stopped at one of our first hikes from dating and I told him I didn't want to, but he convinced me to go part way up. He got on one knee, but I have no idea what he said, I was in complete shock and asked him if he was kidding me. I started to feel a lot better after that

Yep! We were in Paris in our hotel room at the end of the night. He said he was going to do it at all of these spots throughout the city, but nothing felt "right" due to the ridiculous crowds of people and stuff (and I am NOT a people person). It was perfect!

Yep! We were in our hotel room in Las Vegas after taking funny photos of ourselves in front of the little white chapel!

@MerryC: I actually think that's a really cool way to think about it

yes he did.. we were in the gardens at a historical house and he just got a new camera he wanted to try out. he set it up with a remote in his hand to capture the moment - he claims I said "no f'n way" (of course meaning I couldn't believe it was happening). honestly, it was so emotional it was all a blur

my vote is: "i can't remember". i was one of those girls where the whole thing became a blur. i think he did??
