DD is 2.5 years old right now and I remember that it was harder around 1.5 years, too. I think consistently is key in keeping them under control and yourself sane during these ages.
Has anyone else noticed something going on with the half years?

Yes. Totally. DS is nearing 2 now, but 1.5 was when he learned to say "NO" and throw tantrums. I babysat a little girl who was 2 and she turned much more defiant I guess you could say at 2.5.
The best piece of advice I ever heard about raising kids was to add "for now" to the end of your sentence. Like, "My kid is throwing tantrums... for now" It helps keep things in perspective, you know?
