In our relationship, I'm the painter - I love doing it! My husband, though, has decided it's safest to outlaw me from painting while pregnant. It killed me last weekend to let my MIL and SIL paint the nursery for me. It still needs 1 more coat, and I'm itching to do it. We are using no VOC paint, and I have a respirator to wear and can open tons of windows with fans . . . Think it's safe? Did you paint while pregnant or ask your doctor about painting while pregnant?

I did. I painted the nursery 2 weeks ago with a friend. We used no VOC paint and had the windows open. I was completely fine. Didn't even ask my doctor about it (whoops--although she's so laid back I"m sure she would have been fine with it).

I didn’t paint the nursery, my mom did. She had a miscarriage before I was born that happened the weekend after she painted a bedroom and both she and my dad are convinced that it was the paint fumes that did it. I don’t think that’s the case but I let her do it so she could have peace of mind. I did paint a dresser with a face mask on while outside last week! I honestly think that with good ventilation and no VOC paint it would be fine.

Hubs and I just talked about this. I certainly plan to help with the painting, but we want to get it done before the end of October so it's not too cold that we can't open our windows to air it out. Also, we'll definitely be using low/no VOC paint.
FWIW, my mom stripped, sanded, and varnished the hardwood floors in my nursery when she was 7 months pregnant with me! I'm a little weird, but pretty fine for the most part! (c:

I really wanted to help paint but my husband wouldn't let me. It killed me to sit in the living room while he painted the nursery with my parents but it was worth the piece of mind (even though the windows were opened and it was no VOC). But I might add that I am an extremely paranoid pregnant person

I wanted to but DH would not let me. I did however use my craft and acrylic paints to do the murals on the nursery walls.

we had our apt painted, but i didn't paint myself. if it were me i wouldn't paint, but then again i wouldn't paint if i weren't pregnant either!

I did. I painted at about 8w pregnant and I had the windows open and a surgery mask on:)
I smelled: NOTHING.
But, I did make sure to use a lead-free paint (and I asked the clerk and made sure it was safe for a baby's room).
I also spray painted a glaze onto the rocking chair at about 24w but me and DH did that outside in the sun so it was literally drying as we sprayed...it was no biggie.*Note: most all paints are lead-free these days except some that are used to paint siding, patios...

Nope, however my MIL has banned either of us from picking up a paint brush after seeing us attempt when we bought our house (we are both painting challenged) so she came over and did it for us! It was so nice!

I painted a ton while pregnant! I used zero VOC paint to paint the nursery.....but then kind of got too comfortable and started spray painting (outside), and then painted our dining room with regular paint, but we had all the doors open and I wore a mask. I think you're totally fine...especially with zero VOC paints!

I painted my house inside and out while pregnant. There's nothing like seeing a 38 wk pregnant lady on a ladder painting the eves of her home. I probably, we're I to do it again, would have cut myself off at around 34 weeks.

If I hated painting, pregnancy would be a great excuse, but I love to paint! New wall color is instant gratification. The room might just magically get another coat tomorrow AM...

We already painted our living room/dining room/hallway, we used low-VOC paint. I asked the doctor and she said it was fine and just to leave the windows open and try to minimize/clean up paint drips on my skin right away. After seeing the job my husband did on the trim and along the ceiling line and all the touch-ups it left us with, I'll be painting the remainder of the rooms myself (they're much smaller and more manageable one at a time).

i painted at about 6 weeks pregnant. we painted our living room and bedroom over one weekend. we didn't even use low-voc paint... just the cheap stuff. i wore a surgeon's mask and we opened the doors. i hate painting, and would've loved to get out of it, but we didn't have enough help for that.

We painted the entire downstairs of our house when we moved in two weeks ago, including ceilings. I was over 20w. DH wouldn't let me participate when the cheap/stinky paint was involved, but I participated when we used Benjamin Moore Natura or Aura paint--and without a respirator or open windows!
I'm still amazed my paranoid husband let me get away with it, haha. But the paint was great, you couldn't even tell the place had been painted because of the lack of fumes. I'd definitely recommend Benjamin Moore.

I helped paint the nursery at the end of my second trimester. Used low VOC paint and kept the window open. I also stained my barn doors at the beginning of my pregnancy, but did so outdoors. I wasn't too worried about it.

We painted the nursery when I was around 6 months, I think? I was fine other than not realizing how much physical labor it really is! I was exhausted and got a little lightheaded from all the exercise!

I HATE to paint so I used that as an excuse not to do it. During this pregnancy we've had our entire inside of the house painted (with the exception of two rooms), DH is currently painting one of those two rooms and DH has painted/stained the deck.

as long as there's ventilation, i wouldn't even worry about it.

Phew, I just did a craft project that involved gluing some felt -- didn't think a thing about it until I started to get a headache -- and then turned the tube over to read all the California cancer wanrings on the back . . . Guess I'm done with gluing.
We had a huge window opened throughout the day though.
