When I was 4, I got lost in a mall. I was SO scared and cried and cried. Finally, I was reunited with my mom thanks to the help of some mall workers but I remember the second I saw my mom in the distance, I cried even harder. I remember feeling so mad at my mom for losing me. I didn't feel relief. My mom said to me, "Did you think I would lose you on purpose?" and in my tiny mind I really thought it could have been prevented. I was so drama for a little girl.
Anyway, did you ever get lost?

No, my parents put a "leash" around my waist when we went to Disney World when I was three, otherwise it's quite possible I would have.

Oh my gosh, how traumatic!!!!
My mom also lost me in the mall but I don't remember it. I was hiding in the middle of one of those circular clothing racks. I gave her a heart attack I am sure.

I was never "lost" but, there was tne time at Disney World... We were doing the Disney breakfast with the characters. Afterwards, we were walking around and Goofy came by. I gave him a big hug and he picked me up and carried me up two flights of stairs - away from my parents!!! They laughed and followed him and he brought me back down but can you imagine something like that happening today and not in 1984? People would have had Goofy's head!

We're Canadian, and for our first big trip as a family once my sister was old enough we went to Disneyland. Needless to say we were loving it and bought all the touristy garb. Unforunately my mom had the same build and hair color (and touristy shirt!) as another woman that I swear a followed for a half-mile before I realized she was not my mother.
Eight year old me was beyond annoyed that I had to take time out of my busy ride schedule to find a park security guard to call my parents to the missing child area. In the days that followed at Disneyland, we stopped wearing our Disney shirts. Haha!

My mom left me in McDonald's once. But she only made it to the car before she realized. I was six months old and in a car seat and she had my brother and two of his friends who were all 3 years old so she was frazzeled!

No, but they forgot to pick me up at my nanny's house one time. They both got home early and thought I was upstairs playing. Then, after my mom had been home for a while, she started calling for me and then I didn't come. It escalated with them outside calling for me and finally my mom said to my dad, "Okay, let's retrace our steps. After you picked her up, what did you guys do?" My dad said, "I never picked her up." My mom said, "Well, I didn't." So, then they realized that I was safe and sound at the nanny's house.

oh my goodness at everyone's stories! Looks like Disneyland/World is a reoccuring culprit. Then again, that place is HUGE!!
I currently can't recall a scenario, but I'm sure it has happened! I'll update when I remember.

Not really. My dad and I got separated from my mom and siblings at Halloween horror nights. I was already so freaked our by the haunted houses, losing my mom freaked me out even more. But at least I had my dad.

My mom lost me once at the mall- I was hiding in the clothes rack like @Andrea. A teacher from my school happened to be in the store and she helped me find my mom, who was only a short distance away but I thought I was lost forever.

@Andrea: I used to hide in those all the time and my mom definitely left a store not realizing that I was hiding in one.
I'm definitely going to invest in "baby leashes" for when I go shopping!

My parents never lost me, but I didn't get off my school bus on my first day of kindergarten. I rode it all the way back to the bus lot before the bus driver realized I was still there. They had to call my dad and have him come pick me up. He said he walked in the door and I was laughing and playing with the bus driver, but the instant I saw him, I burst into tears.

I got lost at Walmart when I was about five. I went to customer service and asked them to page my dad (full name). He was so embarrassed!

My parents lost me once in a toy store. I'm an identical twin and they thought they had both of us but just had my sister. They stopped dressing us in the same outfit shortly after that incident.

@Goldilocks1107: I just bought one since we will be going to Busch Gardens in a few weeks. I am not really one for leashes but I really do not want to lose her in a big theme park.!!

When I was two or so, my mom took me for a walk down the road to see the ice breakin up on the river. Apparently, I thought that was super-cool, so I went to go check it out (and we live on a highway in the country). A very big man found me and brought me home. My mom never knew I was gone, but I was terrified of that man. So much so, that my mom says that I would never let anyone (sisters, cousins, friends) anywhere near the road after that.

I wouldn't say my parents lost me moreso than I was always wondering off! My parents got in trouble with the MPs (military police) on base at the grocery store because I had wondered off, and was talking their heads off and was 3yrs old and all alone! As soon as they let go of my hand to reach for something I wondered off in search for a stranger to talk to!

I don't remember this ever happening to me, but I do remember one when my parents had 4 kids plus two foster kids that we all loaded up into the van to go run errands and then go to dinner. We got to our first destination and my mom realized my 6 mo old sister and her car seat weren't in the car. Turns out she had been sound asleep in her crib at home and my other sister and I, mom and dad all thought someone else grabbed her. She was still at home asleep when we got back, but I think we were all scarred from leaving the baby home alone!
Our family was way too hectic for a little while. There are many other incidents of wandering, most involving my brother.
