My parents didn't. We did have cable so it wasn't a big problem.
DH's parents made sure to watch movies first before letting him see it.

Yes, I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons or 90210. Those are the only things I remember... and then my mom didn't like me watching X-Files because it would "put weird ideas in my head".

There were a lot of restrictions in my house: The Simpsons, Friends, Ren and Stimpy, basically anything my mom thought was vulgar or had sexual inuendos.
We also weren't allowed to watch R-rated movies. I got grounded for a month when I was 15 for watching an R-rated movie at a friend's house. True story.

No Simpson's or PeeWee Herman for us, my mom couldn't stand those shows, otherwise we could watch whatever. I remember watching Dawson's Creek and her asking me if there was anything I didn't undersatnd (I woud have been late elementary school/junior high)

my parents wouldn't let us rent pg-13 movies until we were 13, and we definitely couldn't rent r movies (you know back in the stone ages when you actually went to blokbuster to rent vhs tapes).
as far as tv, we didn't have cable, so they didn't restrict what we could watch. but for a while my dad took the tv antenna cord with him to work every day so we couldn't watch tv while he wasn't home.

Oh yeah. We weren't allowed to watch a LOT of shows. Even shows that were on TGIF sometimes! My Dad was more strict than my Mom. If the show had even one swear word in it, we couldn't watch it. There were more restrictions I won't go into but yeah. We weren't allowed to watch much unless it was good, wholesome TV.

When I was really young I wasn't allowed to watch Married With Children, or any of the Chuckie movies (I've still only seen the one with Jennifer Tilly--Bride of Chuckie maybe? Chucky?). I used to have a Big Sister doll, and my dad figured that he could somehow make me believe that vampires were fake (we watched movies like Nosferatu together), but he'd never be able to convince me that my doll wasn't going to come to life in the middle of the night.

I have a funny story about this...
I remember being in 6th grade or so and I was not allowed to watch Beverly Hills 90210. The popular girls, of course, were allowed to watch it and talked about it at school. One night I begged my mom to let me watch it and she finally said yes, but I had to watch in her room so my younger siblings couldn't watch. She was walking in and out of her room doing things and as she walked in one time, on the TV one of the characters said, "And then we had sex." And my mom said, "Turn it off" and I wasn't allowed to watch it again for a while.

YES! In addition to numerous t.v. restrictions, I couldn't watch PG13 movies until I actually was 13, and never any R movies until I was a senior in high school.
@BabyBruins: My mom was so not a fan of 90210, either. It was so hard to keep up with my friends!

I wasn't allowed to watch a bunch of stuff. Smurfs, teenage mutant ninja turtles (gave me nightmares), anything with magic, or swearing... I remember watching movies when I was older with my siblings and their friends and my dad ALWAYS walked in just when the "romance" scene was starting and he would just stand there and watch with us and left when it was over. Awkward!
I pretty much just watched PBS, or disney afternoon cartoons when I was younger. And boy meets world and saved by the bell when I was older.

Not at all. I had my own TV so they didn't know what I was watching.

We didn't watch much tv during the school year ( in the summer my grandma watched us & let us watch anything). We couldn't watch it during the day & in the evening we watched very a little, but it was TGIF or a movie usually.
