We didn't really use it until he was 6 months old, and then he just sleeps/sometimes plays in there. We also have a futon in there so it doubles as a guest room (we set up the PnP in our room).

We definitely didn't need the nursery. He's 8 months and still sleeps in our room. If you want to keep baby in your room, I would just have a changing table to store diaper stuff & clothes, a rocker & a place for baby to sleep. You can store extra stuff in the 2nd bedroom

DD had her own room, but she never had a crib/nursery set up for her. When we had guests, they stayed in her room and she stayed with us.

DS is currently in our walk in closet! We have a pnp and all of his clothes in that space.
Ghetto, but he's a baby! He doesn't need much.

Are you planning on renting? I think the 2 bedroom will work for a family of 3, but it'll be tough if you have a second child.

My child has way too much STUFF to not have her own room. Books and toys and clothes (dear God the clothes need a room of their own!). Not to mention the dresser/changing table and the crib. LO slept in our room until she was 4 months old but we still used her room quite a bit until that point. And then when she turned four months we finally moved her at the pediatrician's insistense that it would make all of us sleep better (he was totally right).

I didn't vote... We're TTC and just moved into a two bedroom a couple months ago. The 2nd bedroom will be a combo - nursery, office and guest room. We're looking to put in a murphy/wall bed so that it's only out when needed.

We are going to do the nursery/guest room thing as we've only got 3 beds and need one to act as an office. We'll put a futon in the nursery and move LO into our room when guests stay. I can't imagine people coming to stay that often (my parents live nearby so family can stay with them) so it makes sense to primarily have that room as a nursery.

We live in a 750 sq. foot one bedroom as a family of three. It's on the market now (fingers crossed...we're in negotiations today!), but we've been able to make it work thus far (LO is 6.5 months). You definitely have to keep all the "stuff" in check, but babies really don't NEED all that much. We have a changing station on the hope chest at the foot of our bed. We have a mini crib in our room and current clothes in a hanging organizer in my closet with the other sizes in space saver bags under her crib. There's a shelf for her books in our living room bookshelf and a basket of toys for her too. Her jumparoo's in the living room, but I think that's where it would be anyway. I do think our sleep journey would be different if we hadn't shared a room, but I didn't feel like I would do things differently either. FWIW, she wakes up once a night to nurse (around 3:30am) and is in her crib other than that from 7:30pm-6am.

Nope. We don't have the extra room and she's in our room in her crib. We really like it.
I wasn't sure I was going to but it's been nice to have her right there.

I'm not voting since LO isn't here yet, but right now, the baby's room is nursery/guest room. I figure in the beginning, the baby will be in our room, and that's when we will have the most guests (both our moms are going to stay for a little while-- not at the same time). So I'll set up a changing station and the rock and play in our room, but leave most of the other baby stuff in the second bedroom. The second bedroom will have a queen size bed (double would be way better but we already had the queen), crib, dresser/changer. Other baby stuff will be in the living room in one corner.

Once baby is sleep trained or STTN in his/her own room, any guests are going to have to sleep in the living room. No way will I jeopardize baby's sleep for a guest's comfort!

ETA: We are renting. This wouldn't be a long term solution for us.

@Foodnerd81: sorry to thread jack... But did you end up finding an apartment? I remember awhile ago you were dealing with landlord who wouldn't rent to families with young children.

@VEGMAMA: Check out Apartment Therapy, when DH and I were possibly going to be living in a 1-br with LO I used that site a lot to see how we could make it work. I saw a few nurseries/guest rooms that may give you ideas.

Our LO still sleeps in our room, her crib is sidecarred to our bed so even though we have a nursery, it's basically holding all of her stuff.

We absolutely needed the nursery. LO has slept in her crib from day 3 home from the hospital. We never planned on co-bedding, but I thought she'd be in the RNP in our room. Not so much. Her room is right next to ours, so I leave the doors open and she doesn't feel that far away. I think we all sleep better this way.

We definitely needed ours too. We thought shewould share our room for several onths. Nope, she was in her crib at 2.5 weeks.

I'm so glad she has her own space. She slept in our room in her bassinet until almost 6 months, then we moved her to her own room. By that point we were all keeping eachother up and it just wasn't working anymore. We plan to turn our current guest bedroom into her 'big girl' room when I get KU with #2 and we'll leave a queen bed in there for her/guests to use if/when needed.

We have one but only use it for playtime and diaper changes now with LO at 4 months. We are hoping to use it soon as he is outgrowing the co-sleeper we have him in. We have an additional room though that we can use as a guest room.

We currently live in a one bedroom condo. DS slept in our room in the pnp until about 5 months. Then we put him in this little hallway off the main entrance and kitchen that houses our utility closet, laundry and one door to the bathroom Once we put him there, he sttn without waking. I hate that we still have to be quiet since there's only a curtain blocking him off from the rest of the place. But I love that he's not in our room anymore and we can use it again without sneaking around. We are in the process of buying a house and I can't WAIT to get him in his nursery.

I wouldn't use the word "need" because people do with much less, and we thought about staying in a one bedroom, but decided to move into a 2 bedroom. But I discovered I really had trouble sleeping in the same room as lo. We have a twin bed in her room which a guest could sleep on (and lo in the pnp in our room.)
