Yes, we sent out a picture within a couple hours of their births. I don't think mine looked wrinkly and discolored. They clean them well and they were c section babies. Heck, DS1 was so big, he basically looked like a 2 month old. Most people I know have babies so they know what a fresh newborn looks like.

My first's birth, I didn't do that. With my second one, I had my phone with me and texted my bestie during labor. Once labor and delivery was over with, I texted her some pics, same with my parents, and DH's parents. The FB picture of DS #2 is scrunched up and happy.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: haha! No! But it was midnight. I took one the next morning and sent that to friends

Maybe see how you feel after baby arrives. You can at least have someone take the photos and then decide later whether to share them with anybody. Your doula might be able to take some photos - our doula said that there's really nothing for her to do at the moment the parents meet the baby for the first time, so she loves capturing that in a picture.
My LO's vernix rubbed in very quickly and she looked pretty presentable pretty soon. We shared a photo of me with her bundled in a swaddle blanket from when she was a couple hours old.

We did but my hospital swaddled dd immediately and then with ds would have had him on me more but because of meconium he was taken and cleaned up quickly too... so they weren't gross. But it's your baby, do what you want! I could see wanting baby to look darker if you think it's going to be a relatively quick change!

those pictures are my favorite! I wish I had more of J when he was brand new..
I didn't send any bloody ones but definitely one where he was all wrinkly and pink, only to close friends and my parents.
I don't ask for them either, but love seeing them.

Yup, once she was cleaned off, the photo we sent out was of her less than one hour old, I looked worse than her, ha. @littlejoy was our birth photographer. IMO day 1 and day 7 are not that much different, unless the babe has jaundice. Do whatever you like/are comfortable with.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Friends of ours had a baby a few months ago. The wife is white and the husband is very dark skinned Haitian. We were so excited to see what color the baby would come out because he could really be anywhere along the spectrum. He came out stark white / pink and stayed that way for probably a few weeks. He got less pink but stayed pretty white. His color very slowly came in over the next few months. While he's not extremely dark, you can absolutely see his father. At birth you couldn't at all.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We sent out a picture of LO that was taken probably 15 minutes after she was born. She was cleaned off but she was still super pale. All of our family knew that she wouldn't stay that color! She was cute then and cute after her color came in.

We sent a photo out on FB (after friends and family received it). She was probably two hours old, but didn't look weird at all. She just looked like a newborn. Do what makes you happy!

DH snapped an iPhone photo and sent it out to family when he and DS were snuggling together in recovery while I was getting stitched up post C-section. DS was swaddled with a hat on and was super alert with his eyes opened so the picture was really cute. We have a photo of DS and I snuggling while I was still on the table and a photo with the 3 of us that the nurses took, but we kept that to ourselves for a long time.

The picture we shared was from the recovery room...maybe half an hour after she was born? She was cleaned off but hadn't had a bath yet.
