Years ago, the mom of a good friend told me that she always slept with baby's new blankets for a few weeks before baby came. That way, they would smell like her, which the baby would then recognize. For whatever reason, this idea has stuck with me, so for the last two nights, we've been rotating sleeping with one of baby's blankets in our bed. I plan on washing them before baby comes, but I figure, even if this is an old wives' tale, it can't hurt, right? Plus, I like the idea that the blankets will smell even a little like us before baby uses them. I see it in the same way that I love wearing DH's sweatshirt because it's his, and it somehow reminds me of his scent, even when fresh out of the dryer.
Has anyone else heard of this practice? Did you do it?
