    I forgot to mention that my family also hosted a few exchange students...one from France and another from Venezuela. It was so fun getting to know them!

    @Mrs. Pen: a friend of mine was homeschooled for two years when her parents decided they needed to travel more as a family, and drove from alaska (where they were from) to the tip of south america and back again! Think you could convince mr. Pen?

    @Penny Lane: Auckland and Rotorua!

    @MediaNaranja: both DH and I grew up homeschooled so he'd be down with that

    I read a biography by a ten year old girl whose family did the same but instead throughout the course of a year they visited all 48 contiguous states and made it their "curriculum" I remember as a kid thinking that was SO COOL and I wanted to do the same

    I wish I could have but my program was too demanding. However, since it was a coop program I was able to work internships in various places. For one internship I went to Seattle and as someone else said... It changed my life! My little brother is currently in a similar program and he is in Abu Dhabi right now... That is much further than I ever went!

    I did a year in France then went back each summer for a few years, but was able to stay with family so that made it easier/more affordable. We spent a month in France and a few weeks in the UK with DS in 2011, which was fantastic. I'd love to move overseas with DH and our two littlies.

    I so wish I did. I actually had to choose between study abroad or buying a computer in college. Well, at least I am tech savvy.

    I love NZ. I had a high school study abroad student stay with me...that was cool.

    @Mrs. Pen: It is definitely never too late! Depending on what you and your DH do for a living, you should consider looking into employment with an international organization. My DH is in IT and works for an international organization and that is how we ended up in Vienna. Most expat packages are also very enticing and they pay for your travel from home to the host country, including moving costs. We have friends here, an American couple, who hadn't traveled much before. The woman randomly found a job offer at the same place as my DH and made her DH apply and he got it. It was very unexpected for them, but they jumped at the chance to go.

    I wanted to, but when I tried to talk to my parents about it, I didn't do enough research for a compelling case, and my dad basically said no.

    I made up for it by working for a European company, marrying a co-worker and transferring internally to work there. Just completed 4 years abroad, lol.
