When we've flown we always gate checked LO's car seat and every airlines except southwest bagged it in a clear bag they provided. Southwest didn't bag it, but took good care of it!

We've flown quite a lot with LO, including internationally, and usually gate check the stroller with no bag. At almost 2.5 years, our Maclaren Techno XT has withstood all of our trips so far.

I think if you check it right at the gate, as opposed to at the check in counter you should be fine. I don't think much can go wrong in those few minutes they are handling it Yay for vacation!

We bought the canvas bag that matches the Britax B-Agile. I'm not sure if it was the bag, the way the stroller folds (same as the City Mini) or something else, but the stroller did not come out of gate check 2 out of 3 times we hate checked it in Europe.

We ended up having to claim it at baggage claim even though it was given to them plane side and it had the proper tag for gate check. We saw that other families received their stroller back at the gate so I don't know why ours wasnt there.

We just flew southwest and did not use a bag. The first time, we did not fold the stroller down, and they asked us to come out and do it, and the way back we folded everything down. No problem either time, and it was super convenient to have the car seat and stroller right there!

Also, just a tip, they tried to make us shove our stroller through the xray. It wouldn't fit without destroying it, so you can just ask them to hand inspect it.
