My mom and dad argued about which name would be my middle and which would be my first. My mom initially won and got to give me her choice as a first name. But somehow people STILL called me by my middle name (which my dad loved). So, I always hated that. But now, more and more people refer to me by my legal first name because that is how I introduce myself in my adulthood.
So, yeah, wish people had always called me my legal first name...

Victoria, veronica or samantha. I have a cute type name and always wanted what I thought was a glamorous name as a kid.

Spongerella. I thought it sounded beautiful! My parents will never let me live it down. I was like, 3.

I told my mom I wanted to be Katrina. She was very offended (I was 9)

Arielle. Hmmm wonder why? Then I met a girl name Arielle and she was the baddest kid ever!

Nothing in particular, just a prettier, more popular current name. I was born in the 80's but had a name that was a top ten in the 60's & 70's and pretty much died out after that, so I always associated my name with someone much older.

The runner up for my name was Emily and when I was younger I always wished they'd chosen it instead of my name!

I wanted to be Claudia from the babysitters club.
As a toddler my sister decided she should be an Emily, and would not respond to you unless you addressed her as such. It drove mom crazy!

I always wanted to be Kimberly. I thought it was the most beautiful name from ages 5-12. No idea why now.

I wanted *any* different name besides my own. I don't remember ever choosing a specific one though

@Sammyfab: Haha Cindy is a good one I always felt like the cool girls on tv were named samantha!

I wanted something more pretty and I hated the name that kids teased me with.

@fancyfunction: oh yes Tiffany was my favorite little girl's name but that's my niece's name so we couldn't use it. I loved the names Lauren, Suzanne, and wished my name was Samantha (after Alyssa Milano's character on Who's the Boss)

Yes, and always anything but my name! My mom picked the name thinking it was very unusual, but it ended up being int the top 10 most popular names for many years afterwards. I was always one of the 4 or 5 with my name in every class in school and I always wished I had a more original name! I wasn't even that picky, just wanted to not be the same as everyone else.

@Kimberlybee: I think some of my reasoning for liking it was b/c of the singer!

I've always liked the short form of my name better than the full name, and I've wanted to change my middle name to something other than Michelle for years.

I don't like my full first name so growing up I always wished I had a different name. Thankfully I like my nickname, and that's all I go by now and have since I was about 10.
