I worked during the summers when I was in highschool and then I think my senior year, I worked on weekends. And for the first three years of college, I just worked during the summers. I had a couple random jobs while in college, but they were only maybe 10 hours a week. And then senior year, I had an internship, so I worked about 16 hours a week, but always had weekends off.

And then I took 7 weeks off between when I graduated college and started my full-time job!

Yep - I started ay 15yrs and 9 months and never stopped!

I did work-study in college - wasn't a lot of real work involved so I had time to do homework - and every summer I was expected to work.

I guess I could have not worked but then I would have ZERO money.

I got a job right after college FT as well until I landed my "real" job.

I don't think teenagers need to work FT but I do think 10 hours a week or so to help them learn about saving money and responsibility is a must!

Yup! For my 16th birthday I got my first REAL job. I had been working small jobs before then. I haven't stopped since except for maternity leave!

Yep I did, I was a swim coach through my high school and college years.

I was a lifeguard and waited tables when I was 17/18. Then waited tables and worked for a dermatologist during college (during breaks mostly, I didn't really keep a job while IN school). Then I took an internship with my company and they paid for me to finish college. I worked full time while getting my masters part time. I'm a masochist and am toying with the idea of a PhD in a softer field. But not soon.

I can't believe my parents let me wait tables while in high school, actually. I worked until midnight, HAHA! But i made a TON of money so....yay?

@hotchildinthecity: the summer going into college I worked three part time jobs. It didn't phase me! It was one of the most fun summers I've ever had.

Yes. First job at 16 and I was the only one of my friends who worked throughout HS. I interned every semester of college except one, and always held summer jobs as a student.

I got my first "real job" towards the end of my Sr. year in HS. In college, I only worked during the summers.

I worked part time from 15-18, and have worked full time ever since. I worked full time and was also a full time student at the same time.... now at 30 I'm so ready for a break but things aren't slowing down any time soon!

I worked one day a week in HS and two days in College. I worked more days during the summer when school was out and I wasn't taking summer courses. My parents wanted me to focus on school and school only and didn't want me working. Once I graduated from college, I've been working FT.

@hotchildinthecity: No. My mom was kind of like you - worked through high school and was adamant she didn't want us to do that. So we did things like educational summer camps and other things to supplement my high school's really crappy education.

In college I worked here and there, but only full time one summer. I volunteered two other summers and studied abroad another.

I did babysit regularly during both.

I worked part time in grad school.

Actually, I've never had a full time/full paying job. I did two years in a volunteer corps after college. Then after grad school I was pregnant and took a part time job so I could stay home with the kiddos some too. Sometimes I wish I had had a fine in my life where I was just working and not doing school or kids so that I could have made a little money! And not spent it on tuition or diapers...

Yup, I started working in a restaurant at 16 and continued to work through college and grad school and still working.

But I got in all my travel after I started teaching. I would sublet my apartment and travel for 6 weeks -2 months for 5 years straight, it was amazing.

Yes. I had a job in HS and on and off during college, but I always worked in the summer.

Yep. I rode my bike to my first job before I could drive. I started working at 14 years old when my mom made some comment about not getting a job. I rode my bike down the street to a restaurant and became a bus boy. After that restaurant, I worked at another couple of restaurants nearby throughout high school.

During high school and college, I worked retail for a bit. One of my college summer was spent in class at a community college taking math and science courses for credit/not my GPA. Another summer was spent as an intern in Washington, DC. It was right around the time that Chandra Levy disappeared. My parents worried about me constantly that summer. Luckily, my brother was in Philadelphia that summer, so I visited him and my SIL. I think one summer was spent taking care of my mom post surgery.

Yep, I've been working for a long time. I remember feeling that office jobs were the place to be because I hated retail and restaurants after some time. Now, they're just okay.

My brothers wouldn't let me work in high school because they thought school was more important. In college I worked PT for extra spending cash. I started full time immediately after graduation.

@hotchildinthecity: DH was like that! Got his first PT job at 15, I think. Then started full time when he started college. The man worked 40 hours a week in a program that required us to stay up all night a lot along with going to school FT. He's my hero.

I started working summers when I was 13. I worked at a farm taking care of the horses and taking people on trail rides in exchange for leasing one of their horses. At 15, I started working at Papa Johns ( through the school year and summer) and worked there until I turned 18. I worked at a payroll company through my early 20s and didn't go to college until I was 26. In college, I worked for a law firm.

Yep. I started at 15. In high school I would wake up at 6:00 and leave for school at 6:30. After school I would go to soccer practice and then straight to work from there. I'd get home around 10:30, eat, shower, and homework before bed. I don't know how I did that.

I had two jobs through my junior year of college. I didn't work my senior year.

Yup, I worked about 8 hours a week for my parents while I was in high school (they had a gas station). I worked off and on throughout college at various retail stores.
