I'm trying to decide what to do.....
I had a bump in spring then summer last time. This time I'm showing at 15 weeks in November and am due in April so it will be cold all through the rest of my pregnancy. Worth the investment, I think.

I did when I had my April baby! I wore it a ton. I lived in NYC and walked a lot so I needed a proper fitting, warm coat.

I need to get one too. I've been looking at Old Navy, Motherhood, and consignment stores / craisglist / FB resale pages. I don't want to spend a lot since this will be my last and will just need something to get by for a few months.
I have a heavier North Face fleece that still fits, but I'm not sure for how much longer.

I had one baby at the end of November (but was due mid December) and one at the end of December. I didn't get a maternity coat, but my normal coat was a belted trench style so I was able to just belt it around my belly. If I had been pregnant for most of the winter, I definitely would have considered it.

I went to a discount department store and bought a jacket in a plus size. Worked perfectly and when I was done, I didn't feel badly donating it because I only spent $25.

I did not buy one and had my baby in January. I was able to use my long, down jacket for most of the pregnancy--just didn't zip it all the way down. I borrowed a fancier jacket for days I needed to look a little more polished.

I'm due with a late February baby and I bought one - got one on clearance back in July though, so it wasn't too $$.

So far I've been able to get buy with a looser fitting coat I already owned. It's not the warmest but I am due mid December so I think it will just cut it. My friend who is due end of January is looking for a used one because by January it will be cold!

I have two.
My first one didn't cover my enormous belly past 34 weeks.
My second is an M coat which I've worn for two pregnancies and will wear for at least three baby wearing winners. I'm on my third January baby in Canada. Not having a maternity coat isn't an option. I tried wearing a larger men's coat but length was an issue. And they looked ridiculous.

Yes, I had to! I couldn't squeeze my bump into my down coat. I luckily got a nice one at a great discount, wore it for 2 pregnancies and was able to sell it when I was done.

I didn't need it. I wore a pea coat with a tie, or just wore a sweat shirt under my unzipped north face.

I had to! I got a big warm maternity parka! I also have a Burberry with an open pleat in the back I was able to wear.

I bought one that could accommodate my growing bump and be able to wear after as well. I didn't want to spend money on a maternity coat.

No, I was able to still use my puffy jacket. I also have a longer puffy coat now and I'm hoping its roomy enough to get me to March.

Yes. My first was a January baby and I walked 8 blocks to/from work every day. I needed a warm coat. I found one on sale at Motherhood Maternity.

Nope - honestly I was hot most of the time anyway - when I did need a jacket I finally bought a larger sized coat from Old navy and used that

I didn't, but I run HOT during pregnancy. My husband would be bundled up and I'd be stripping off the layers.

My babe is due in early December in a mild climate so I'm just toughing it out but I thought this coat was awesome! Can convert for maternity, baby wearing, or just regular wear with a removable panel.

Yes. I live in NJ and it gets cold. I just bought one from Old navy and they had 30% off. I really liked one from Motherhood Maternity but Old Navy was cheaper so we'll see how I like it.

i didn't need one with my first pregnancy like you, but the second winter, when LO was almost a year old, I discovered an awesome coat that serves as both a maternity and babywearing coat. I got good use out of it until LO got too big for it. And I knew i could possibly use it maternity for when I got pregnant again (and it turns out I will as I am due in Feb). And I will use it some more to wear LO2 this winter and next.
The best part that sold me was that i needed a new winter coat in general, and the coat i got also turns into a regular coat simply by removing the insert. So i can actually use it for everything for years to come. Was definitely worth it.
I'd say a coat that is multipurpose is worth it, but if it literally just to wear for a few months, i'd only get a cheap one or none at all.

I bought a cheap one from old Navy around boxing day (I was about 25 weeks by then). In hindsight I wish I would have bought a panel instead because now I have to keep my coat open when I wear my LO in the carrier.

Depends on the weather where you live. In canada yes. But I actually got a zip in panel for my good winter coat. bonus is you can switch it around and wear it as a babywearing panel too. I was due in april and found it useful. But if you live somewhere milder, i did find I ran hot so I could wear my coat unzipped with a scarf or sweater covering the belly on warmer days (like 0-5C)

I had a March baby, I actually just wore my normal peacoat, it had an empire waist type style to fit around my bump, toward the end I couldn't button it but it kept me warm enough with a scarf.

I got a $100+ (retail) pea in the pod maternity coat on ebay for only $40! Ebay has been a amazing source for stuff like that, and typically it's very gently used. I'm re-using the coat with #2 - I like it at least as much as my regular coat! The trick is to stick with the brands that wear well, like old navy, pea in the pod, gap, etc. I tried a coat on in the store first too to be sure I knew sizing

I would if I was due in April. I was due in December so I didn't. I just wore a North Face coat in a size up, unzipped. I felt like that would be more useful for after baby as well, which it was.

Following this thread as I might actually need a maternity coat this time! My first two were born in Australia so no coat was ever needed but now in England, that will not be the case. I'm not due until the end of June though, and never showed until 20+ weeks with either of my other pregnancies, so maybe I'll get lucky and avoid having to buy a coat?'

I bought a winter coat for my April baby, and was so glad I did, it got so much wear! People always say that pregnant women are always hot, but I was freezing and needed it so badly. Also wore it for part of the next winter, since I wasn't in pre-baby shape yet/my old winter coat was too tight

I live in Texas and have been debating if I should get one or not since you never know how the temperature is here (one year, we were all in tshirts and shorts for Christmas, but the following year, we got 17" of snow in February!). DD is due in March and as of right now, I'm just going to try and tough it out by wearing my regular jackets and not zip it up. I have one larger coat that I'm hoping might work for me if it gets gnarly cold.

I typically wear a women's XL and bought a men's Large north face jacket that I wore a ton while pregnant and continue to wear now. So i vote no..... we get cold days, but not tons of snow, by any means, and I ran super warm while pregnant.

I did (although I was so mad I had to because the winter before I'd invested in a Canada Goose jacket because I was so tired of being cold all the time) - I was due at the end of January and had a job that required me to make site visits once a week, so I needed a decent coat. This time I'm due at the end of March so I'll get more use out of it. It's not really warm enough for Canadian winters but it will have to do.

I had a May 1st baby. I had one sitting in my Amazon cart all fall and winter, but, never ended up buying it. My regular winter coat looked a little weird, but continued to zip over the bump until ~32 weeks. And by that point I was broiling all the time even at temperatures well below freezing.
