I'll be induced at 37.5 weeks because of high blood pressure. Just wondering if baby will need any NICU time. My first was born at 40+1 so obviously I have no idea about 37 weeks. Tell me about your experiences.

My 36+2 was 6lb 3oz and didn't even have to stay an extra day. (I was induced) He was and is a perfect healthy baby . I hope everything goes well for you and the baby.

My 33+1 only had to stay 15 days, so nowhere close to 37 weeks. I'd be shocked if yours did.

No-- I was induced at 37 weeks bc of low fluid and she was small (5lbs 13 oz) but perfectly healthy

In general I believe 35 weeks is the typical NICU cutoff. This is from a former NICU nurse friend.

DS was born on his own at 37 and 2. He was perfectly heathy, and did not spend anytime in the NICU.

My 38w4d girl did have some NICU time. Everything was fine.
Good luck

It really depends on the baby, but generally 37 weekers are fine without nicu time

My first was born at 37.5 and no
My second was born at 37.2 and they brought the nicu team in for delivery, but she was good, so they didn't even assess her. ( I don't think.)

Yes BUT it was because I had a fever when I was finally sent down for my c section. So they sent him to the NICU in case of infection.
I probably shouldn't have said yes in the poll, since it wasn't because he was 37 weeks. He was a healthy 7lb7oz. Sorry!

DS was born at 37 weeks exactly. No nice time for him, though a nicu pediatrician came to take a quick look at him because he was gurgling a little bit when he breathed. It was no big deal, they just wanted to be safe.

I'm a NICU nurse and I think it is dependent on so many things whether a 37 weeker needs time in the NICU. Basically it usually depends on whether they need any oxygen and if they're a sleepy feeder. Some 37 weekers are totally full of energy and good to go and some take a bit longer to catch on!!

My LO was born at 37 weeks exactly but they started inducing me at 36.6 (also due to pre-e). She had some jaundice and was on a blue light for a few days, but otherwise totally fine. They did have a NICU team present at delivery to evaluate her lungs but she did fine.
Keep in mind if they have you on magnesium baby may be a little sleepy & a lazy nurser at first, but that will go away within a few days.

Miss G was born at 36+5 and was a good healthy weight BUT she needed some oxygen after birth and had trouble feeding/sucking. She was in special care for 7 days.

Induced at 37.5 weeks because of pre-e. Ultrasound showed he was in the 0th percentile for growth, and he was in the NICU for a little over a week. Good luck!
