M has been waving for a long time but has only clapped a few times by 13 months! She will bang two toys together easily, just doesn't like to clap her hands.

Xander sort of did a wave, but it's inconsistent and I'm not sure he really knows what he's doing. His clapping though is intentional, so I'm saying clapping was first!

Clapped first, waved late - he blew kisses instead for a long time!

DD waved at seven months and clapped at eight. She still far prefers waving to clapping.

@winniebee: OMG, I want Xander to blow kisses!!! How do I teach him that???

i don't know. LO is 9.5 months. sometimes he raises his hand and opens and shuts his fingers in a way that looks like waving, but i'm pretty sure that's accidental. he started banging objects together a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday he kind of clapped. so i guess i'll go with clapping first.

@Adira: I keep trying to get R to do this. When we leave day care every day I have her blow kisses to her teachers, but I don't think she gets it at all.

She clapped first, waving took longer for her. She still doesn't really "wave" more just holds her hand up and keeps it there

@Adira: I taught M to blow kisses just this weekend. It honestly took me like 30 minutes to teach her and now she is OBSESSED. What made her really interested was I would make a big "MUWH" kiss sound when I did it.
M waved for about a month before she started clapping. She now does them both an equal amount. And knows the words associated with the actions so she waves any time she hears someone was "hi" or "bye" and she claps when she hears someone say "yay"

@LuLu Mom: Hahah our friend's LO does this. It's like she perpetually waiting for someone to give her a high five!

DD clapped first then learned to wave. We never waved at her, so she didn't learn til later
DS.. oh, how I love him. Doesn't wave or clap I started clapping and waving around him recently though.

LO waved first a few weeks ago, right at 8 months. It's usually mid conversation so I'm not sure if she knows what she's doing. She started clapping this week and she really into it.

Waved first! He started waving at 9-10 months but didn't start clapping until almost a year.

@chopsuey: I see J as more of a laid back head nod kind of kiddo . . .

Clapping for sure at 7-8 months. Waving came later. We clap when he does something good all the time.

@MamaMoose: Yep that's it And at 13 months she's still working that. And blowing kisses, she never actually blows just hold her hand to her mouth It's like she gets bored! haha

@MsLipGloss: HAHA. omg I think I'm gonna have two wild children on my hands soon though. He's starting to get into everything and is a major fake crier!

@chopsuey: Two words . . . child harness(es)! Or, *fancy backpacks with loooong shoulder straps*! Ahhhh, your little lady is busy, but she really is a sweet sweet girl! I can't imagine what she and J will be like as partners in crime!
And R is such a drama queen in the crying department . . . and stubborn. (wonder where she gets that from?!) The weaning process is slow and painful . . . and too much drama!
