Our hospital offers it but we declined since we had a friend come by with his camera. He got some really good shots of DH and DS.
I don't think he will be able to stop by for this baby so we might do it this time. I'm hoping to at least get a shot of all four of us. Hopefully this birth is a little smoother (I had major swelling and had to have a catheter until the night before I was discharged. I did not feel like being in any pictures!).

I was so annoyed with the photographers at our hospital. We told them we were not interested from the very beginning and they kept coming back and were SO PUSHY! Other people's photos do look nice, but we were dealing with health issues from my pre-e (got worse after delivery) and LO's jaundice (delivered 3 weeks early) that photos were the last thing on my mind.

I love my pictures from the hospital of my boys. We didn't get pictures until the day we were headed home. Which was around day 3 with N and day 12 or 13 with E

Yes, it's actually one of the nicu nurses who does it on her off time. She was great, worked quickly, and only used natural light. She had everything needed for cute newborn photos no need to bring anything of your own. You have the option of taking pics with the baby, we just did baby. With DD they came out ok and with DS I really liked them. We bought the smallest package with both kids.

Yes - they do this at my hospital and I have been pleased. $50 for newborn pictures is a steal in my book - they havent been great but have certainly been good enough...
The nurses ask you first if youd like them to come by - so I think you can say no and you will never see them!

Ours did. The experience was quite humorous, the woman was maybe 75 and hilarious. The pictures were generally terrible, but I just had to laugh...DH crept up behind the photographer and snapped a pic of LO once she was all set up. I internally cringed for .5 seconds (I'm a photographer and know thats generally a no-no with "pros"), but then realized that I didn't have the energy care. Turns out DH's photo was the best out of all of them!!!

Yes, but I only got shots with DD1. I wasn't ready when they came by for DD2 and they couldn't come back because it was New Year's and they wanted to get outta there. Boo!

This thread makes me feel better. LO was also fussy, we were learning to nurse, I didn't have milk yet, recovering from C-section... They kept coming and I kept sending them away and they seemed so baffled and put off! I was honestly embarrassed we couldn't do blissful newborn pictures. I saw friends & family with gorgeous hospital pictures and felt like a weirdo for not getting it together!
Next time I will say no off the bat.

Yes, with my second. I was skeptical but they turned out great and we ended up buying them!

@bloved: so adorable!
They stopped by for LO1. The pics were ok, but I still bought them. I wasn't happy with the personal photos I took and the newborn photographer we hired didn't take photos until she was almost 2 weeks old.
LO2 was in the NICU until discharge so we didn't have the "normal" photographer. However, there was a volunteer NICU photographer who came to do complementary photos. They are AMAZING. In fact, months before, I had actually looked into hiring her for newborn photos but she was out of our budget. It was just an amazing coincidence that she was the NICU photographer.

Yes both times they stopped by and we scheduled for them to come back later in the day. We ordered a few prints each time. It was a lot cheaper for us to do this than hire a professional. We were really happy with our experiences.

I was happy with the photos the photographer took at our hospital. They weren't amazing or anything, but they were good photos. She happened to be there when my mother-in-law was visiting along with her sister and mother, so there's a really nice shot of them all crowded around me admiring the baby.

I had no idea this was a thing until the photographer came by, but we love how ours turned out! She also wasn't intrusive at all-- came by and made an appointment with us to come back later so we'd be prepared. Also Sh brought all the props (swaddling cloth, backdrop, hats, headbands, etc) so we didn't have to have had anything (we didn't!). Here's one of ours:

@nana87: Oh so precious! Love this. Hope our experience turns out similarly.
