My mom stayed at a hotel just down the block from our place. We were living in a one-bedroom at a time, and we just couldn't handle a houseguest in the living room with a newborn. She was in town for two weeks, and it was really nice to have an extra set of hands to run errands or help me steal a shower.

My mom stayed with us before for about a week, but that was when we had a spare bedroom. I'm not sure what we will do this time. The only extra bed is the extra twin bed in my daughters room.

Nope. Flew solo. We managed really well w/o help. Not that i wouldn't have loved for someone to take care of me, but she would've been more stress than help

Nope, she lives super close (like 10 minute drive) though. My sis was here for the first week, though she spent nights at my parents house and just came here for the days.

She came 2 weeks after #1 and about a month after #2. DH is usually off for a month so I don't think we need the help....I also get agitated easily when my mom is around.

Nope! She lives 15 minutes away, though.

With DD2, she only came over twice for like fifteen minutes the entire first month of her life.

No she won't be able to! LO is due any day and she can't make it to visit until end of March. She lives 18 hours away.

Yes, for the first two-ish weeks. I honestly couldn't have done it without her. DH went back to work after a week so it was great to have her here, particularly because I had a csection and wasn't supposed to do much (despite feeling totally fine), but also because I was an emotional wreck.

I should add though that my mum and I are very close. And she did not expect me to host her in any way. She cooked, cleaned, brought me breakfast in bed, took late night shifts with the baby etc.

I don't plan to have her at first, no. It's really important to me that we have the first week home alone, just me and my DH and LO. After my husband goes back to work (he's taking like 1-1.5 weeks off) she will come down for about a week to help out.

She flew up a few days before he was born and stayed for the two weeks after.

No, she came into town for the day a couple times, but she still works and isn't in the situation to come stay for extended periods of time. She and my brother are on call to stay for a couple days if #2 decides to come early.

My MIL is retired and stayed with us for 10 days last time, and we have her coming again for 2 weeks prior to my due date.

We lived in a 1 br condo when DS was born so my mom didn't stay with me. But she did come down for the day a few times and helped me clean. She lived about 40 minutes away. We now live less than 10 minutes from her so I imagine she'll be around more when we have a 2nd.

Yes - with my 2nd she stayed for 3 weeks and took DS to and from DCP everyday - I got to stay in my pjs and snuggle with my baby
She cooked and cleaned and helped with the newborn when I was with my older DS - I cried and cried when she left

We live with my parents & I don't know what I would have done without my mom!

Next time I may actually have my mom stay with us in the hospital, especially if I have a C section. DH is just not a caretaker.

Nope. Our family lives a ways away and LO came two weeks early so DH and I were completely on our own the first two weeks. Then my mom came to town for a couple weeks, but stayed with my aunt/grandma, and also went for a girl's weekend with her friends when my husband was on his weekend off.

She came by the first few nights, which was nice. I honestly wouldn't have minded her being around more, looking back I totally should have taken advantage of her and tried to sleep more/nap more/shower more/etc.

Nope, my mom passed away 4 years ago. My Stepmom came up and stayed the night in our town but not at our house and my MIL came over to help for a day, but that was it! I was kind of overwhelmed anyway.

Nope. My parents live 10 minutes away and probably wanted to but we needed time as a family of 3...also, when they did come it wasn't super helpful. My mom took a month off and would stop by every few days to basically drop off some food. She developed kidney stones and went to the ER herself and I think she resented not being about to come and take over.

Things got better though and they've been the biggest help and continue to drop by a few times a week and drop off food or stay with LO during naptime or grab groceries for me. I much rather prefer the help later on rather than the first month

Yes - thank The Lord! She only lives about 20 minutes away but she stayed two weeks with us. She did help with the baby, but the bigger help was having someone cook and clean. I ate so well those 2 weeks! I want her to do the same when #2 comes. I cannot imagine not having that help in the beginning!
