I have a post partum appt with my OB today. At my previous PP appt, they gave me a handout of my BC options and told me to think about what I wanted to do. I'm not ready to make a decision, plus I've never been on BC before. Is it normal to start talking about BC right away? I'm 8 weeks PP.

Our LO was unplanned so I thought about BC at like 20 weeks pregnant. But others I know didn't do birth control in between kids. My OB didn't push it either, she just asked what I was thinking and we went from there.

Mine didnt. He brought it up but we told him we were gonna go Au naturel.. Dh and I were open to another baby whenever.
This time around we need to figure something out thougg -
my mw didn't but she wanted me to know my options. Since I wasn't comfortable with the pill or IUD while breastfeeding, I decided to just use condoms. It is what it is.

He didn't push it but told me to be very careful...since I already had my period by my 6 week postpartum appointment. I asked for a mini pill prescription and took it for a few months,

Mine actually talked about it before DS was even born.
ETA: She didn't push it, she just wanted to know if I was planning on going on birth control or had given it any thought yet, and wanted to answer any questions I had about any method, which I appreciated since we're not sure if we want a second baby, but are 100% sure we don't want an Oopsie baby. I ended up getting an IUD placed yesterday.

She asked but didn't push it. I also lied and told he we use condoms though.

They weren't pushy, but they did bring it up at our 26 week appointment -- at that time, it was the last thing on my mind!

She either said condoms or BC because he recommends I wait at least a year before getting pregnant again. I GLADLY opted for BC. After gaining 70lbs with DD this body needs a break lol

I've read there are a lot of unplanned pregnancies in new mothers-- like people who just thought they couldn't get pregnant again that fast-- so I'm not surprised they would make a point to really mention it. For people who had more complicated births or c-sections, I wouldn't be surprised if they push it a little harder.
Can't speak from my own experience, though. My last MW appointment consisted of her telling me to have a lot of sex

We talked about it at my 6 week check with my DDs.
This time around we actually talked about it already because my hospital only allows a woman to get her tubes tied following a c section if it was planned before delivery. Not that I am having a c section or getting my tubes tied, but DH and I are talking premanent BC options and we wanted to have our bases covered.

SHe didnt push it on me but she definitely mentioned that I can get pregnant right away, she aske me what I wanted and i said I wasnt looking into anything just yet.

She offered all of the options, but didn't push it. She was pretty happy when I said we probably wouldn't use anything. She gave me a prescription for the mini-pill just in case we wanted to use it down the road, but I have no clue where it is now.

My doctor brought it up while I was pregnant (early thrid trimester?), and again at my post partum appointment. She didn't push anything, but wanted to make sure I knew my options.
I had NO desire to have "Irish twins" so the advice was very appreciated.

I wouldn’t say she pushed, but my OB brought it up at near to the end of pregnancy so that we could have a plan in place for my 6 week pp visit. She stressed that bf is not actually reliable birth control and said she recommends all women get back on birth control soon after birth to protect themselves (unless you are open to possibly getting pregnant very soon after giving birth).

Since my first pregnancy landed me with three kids within 8 months of each other. My OB did my six week pp check then said "ok, you are cleared to have sex, with that being said I am kind of assuming you want birth control". I laughed and said "what you don't want me sobbing in your office again, yep BC please"

OB asked and I said yup, I'm done please prescribe.

No mine didn't push it on me, but gave me my options and let me choose what I want to do, we don't use BC though.

My midwife didn't push it, but she did bring up birth control at my 6 week postpartum appointment. The only birth control I will use is condoms, so I told her this and she left it at that.

Mine wasn't pushy but definitely made sure I was aware of my options. And yes, it is very common to have that conversation at the 6 week PP appt- a lot of women are misinformed that breast feedng = birth control.

Thanks ladies. I think it was the way she worded it that made me feel like she was pushing it as opposed to letting me know my options. I guess we'll see in a few hours. I've never considered BFing to be birth control (just a nice way to put off having a period), but maybe she thinks I do.

My OB asked if I had thought about post-baby BC at my 24 week appointment. lol. I had already decided I wanted a Mirena. I got it inserted at 6 weeks pp.
C was unplanned though.

Mine definitely pushed it on me. But when I said I was done at two children while pregnant, he laughed and said "yeah, we'll see"!

My OB asked and decided on the mini pill, however it messed with my milk supply so I stopped..now we are just winging it, so to speak.

Yup he made sure I knew all my options and answered any questions at my 6-wk. I don't know what we are going to do. I want one more baby, DH doesn't (though originally he wanted 4!!?) ...so at te very least we will be going the condom route.

It was brought up a lot at my OBGYN visits, but only with the nurse practitioner and not my doc. She talked about it with me while I was pregnant and at my 6 week checkup too.

They didn't push..... she asked what I wanted and I told her. I already knew what I wanted though.

Mine pushed, I actually got the prescription filled (mini pill) but never took it.
I'm planning on going back on the pill after I'm finished breastfeeding though, it works amazingly well for me.
