We let our parents pick (well in reality, our nieces had already picked since she wasn't the first) but I figured it's up to them what they want to be called!

My ILs go by Nana and Pops (at least to their other grandsons, E doesn't call them anything yet).

My mom half-seriously wants to be called Honey or Tink. I figure there's a chance that E might make up his own name to call her, and even if he doesn't...eh, if it's what she wants it doesn't hurt me at all, even if I think they're silly.

If it's something that's important to you, maybe you could email her one of the billion grandparent-name lists you can find on the internet. Or just outright tell her that you think it sounds old, older than Grandma even, since that's something that matters to her.

Both my mum and MIL wanted to be nan. My mum was upset about it because she was dead set on nan - it was what her mother was known as and her mother passed away many years ago. MIL was insistent that they could both be nan and wouldn't choose another name either. Sigh. I really wanted them to have different titles but what could I do? Upset my mum? Challenge my MIL?

Aaw, I've already picked meemaw as my granny name!! I just hope my kids approve!!

My MIL decided on noni which I love. We've decided most likely Deedee for my mom (my dad calls her d) and the new orleans style pawpaw for my dad. But I havent asked their input yet and they are welcome to change it, especially if LOs decide to make up their own names.

My MIL has been OBSESSED with finding a name for herself. It was really kinda annoying. First it was Nana, but then DD started saying "nanana" for banana. So she changed it to Nanny. And FIL is Papa. My parents are just Grandma and Grandpa, but DD says Mama and Bumpa for now.

Yes and no. My dad didn't want to be called grandpa so he chose something else, but it's cute and I love it.

My mom didn't care, and so she was initally Nana. Then my son realized that everyone referred to her by her first name, and started calling her, "My {first name}. She loved that he was so possesive of her, and it stuck. He's 11 now, and dropped the "my" a couple of years ago. I don't like it, and think he should call her grandma or nana, but she thinks it would be weird if he called her anything else. This is the same woman who would have killed me, growing up, if I referred to ANY adult by their first name!

They picked their own names. My FMIL picked a name I hate but oh well. DS1 ended up renaming my mom because he couldn't say what my niece and nephew call her, so she's got 2 names now.

Mine all either picked or had their names already! My dad picked 'papa bear,' my stepmom was already 'Gigi,' and my Ils were already 'Gram & Grampy' (which, I feel your pain on meemaw, I really dislike gram and grampy as grandparent names but what could I do?? haha!) My mom still refuses to answer to Grandma; she's being a brat about it, so I just don't have a name for her yet!

My mom calls herself grandma, but Chloe calls her nana. My dad said he'd let chloe pick his name, and so far she calls him by his first name!

We all correct her & try to get her to call my dad "pappy", but it isn't working!

We let them all pick. I think my mom was bummed because my step MIL was already being called Nana (nah-nah) by my nephew. On my side grandmas are always called Nana (nan-ah), but I told my mom that seemed too confusing. I wish I hadn't, I don't think that now

Anyway, she put a lot of thought into it and chose Nonna. My dad....we always joked he'd be called "Codger" because he can be such a grumpy old man. AND he liked it, so we call him "The Codger". Seriously. They are Nonna and the Codger.

I wish I had just told them: "You're Mimi and Pop-pop - live with it!" It's too late now.

My mom has wanted to be a Nana since I was little. It's what we called her mom. We're currently expecting our first and I'm not quite sure on the rest of the grandparents' names. My IL's just had their first grandchild last week so their names aren't set yet either. Since my parents are both remarried there are a total of six names to coordinate.

My mom and dad wanted to be Grandma and Granddad. First grandbaby called them Nannie and Poppa, and that stuck!

Meemaw is a popular name in the south.

My in-laws requested to be Grandma Firstname and Papere (French for Grandpa). I'm not a huge fan of small children referring to their elders by their first name, so I'm hoping that won't stick.

My parents are just Grandma and Grandpa I think? My mom thought Grandma sounded old too since she's barely 50, but while I was pregnant my cousin who had their kid at 16's son got his girlfriend pregnant and made her a grandma at 34 and she was ok with being called "Grandma" so I think my mom decided she could be ok with it too!

My Grandmother is Gigi and my husband's paternal grandma goes by Mamere to her grandkids, so I'd assume she'll be Grandmamere to her great grandkids.
