Mine did - it's where they met! They both have bachelors degrees. I always felt college was necessary and completely it immediately after high school.

DH's dad completed, but I don't think his mom did. His dad is a college professor, and oddly enough, doesn't think college really holds any value. None of his three kids completed college (although DH is trying to now at 30) and none of them have great "careers" either. It definitely hurt them.

My mom has a bachelors & my dad has two masters. They've always put a big priority on education.

Yep. Both went to college. My mom finished college when I was in school. She dropped out when her mom got sick and returned after we were a little older. My dad holds a JD while my mom has a Master's degree. My brother also holds a JD. We have three lawyers in our family including my SIL. I hold a Master's degree too. So, everyone in my family has an advanced degree.

My parents' education background definitely influences how I feel about higher education. I want to save as much money as possible for our kids to have the same opportunities as we did.

Both parents did. And both grandparents on my mom's side had degrees, and that was a time (the 1930's) that most women did not attend college, and if they did they didn't stay all 4 years (teachers, for instance, only required 2 years).

My parents were actually pretty relaxed about grades, but it did just seem like college was a given for me. I never even considered not going, even though my parents made it clear they wouldn't be paying for any of us to go.

My mother has a teaching certificate, she was educated abroad and the program to be a teacher at the time (40 plus years ago)was structured where you do concentrated classes as opposed to a university degree. My mom was busy raising 3 kids, one with special needs. She learned English when she was in her early 20s, I never saw her read anyting. I am not even sure she read to me as a child.

My father has an associates degree in elecrical engineering. I have never seen him read anything other than seed catalogs and the local newspaper. English isn't his first language.

Despite that, I have a BS and an MSIS.

My dad went, but never finished. He left after his sophomore year to take over his dad's business. He still owns and loves the same business 40 years later, so it was a good decision for him.

My mom went to cosmetology school. By the time my middle brother was born she was able to do hair from home occasionally so she could stay home with her kids. It worked perfectly for our family. When I started middle school she took some community college courses, and is now an elementary computer teacher!

My parents did not, but they were living in Vietnam. They left VN for America so we could have better opportunities.

Their schooling doesn't sway me but what does affect me is my brother's ability to get a good job without having to go to college. So I would like my LOs to go and finish school but it's not a hard requirement. I understand that some aren't cut out for structure like a 4 year college program.

Neither of my parents went to college. My generation is the first is my family to go, and only a small amount of us (three or four) did. I knew that I would go to college. It was important to my mother, and I just wanted to. None of my brothers went, but my sister is in college currently. I'm really proud of her for going despite not having a lot of support from her parents (we have different moms).

My dad has his bachelor's, but my mom doesn't. Seeing how hard my dad works for the family really drives who I am today. Hoping to instill the same thing in our kiddos!

My mom is an RN, so she finished. My dad started college while living at home and dropped out and joined the coast guard.

His experience swayed me because I thought of doing community college first, but he said no. That I needed to get out of the house and "be on my own"

My mom went to college later in life, around the same time I did. She didn't finish her degree, though. My dad didn't go to college.

Even though she didn't go to college, education is very important to my mom and I was raised knowing I'd be going to college when I got older. She was the valedictorian of her high school and should have gone to college but was pregnant with me. For me there was never the option not to go to college and that was okay with me.

My parents were teen parents. My dad did a couple years of college, and my mom has taken as few classes here and there. I think this made their expectations for their four kids really high. Having their kids go to college was really important to my parents.

Nope, neither of them did. That said, they strongly encouraged us to go to college and I never really thought about not going.

I'm not sure my ILs finished high school, but they both instilled a love of learning in their kids and 7 of the 8 finished college before getting married and 2 have PhDs. (This is a huge deviation from the norm in their country - most of their cousins were married with children by the time they were 20.)

I was the first person in my family to graduate from college with a bachelors degree.

Since then, my mom has gone back for hers. Go mom! My step-dad went back to school as well, and now has a masters in nursing. So proud of both of them!
