(Sex disappointment?)
My parents had a boy and girl and they were really happy about it. My inlaws had 3 boys and they really wanted a girl. DH is the youngest and he says his parents wanted a fourth but they didn't want to be "disappointed" with another son.

my mom had a girl(me), boy and with the third wanted another girl. she had another boy. she has never said she was disappointed or anything, just she wanted another girl for the clothes haha

My parents had four girls and as far as I know they were okay with that. Now they have four granddaughters and it's a running joke that none of us are capable of rearing boys. We're all desperate to be the first, lol.

I have to say, this is one subject line where using gender, even if sex was more technically correct, was a good idea!
I don't think my parents did. I know my dad wanted a boy, preferably first, and my brother is the oldest. I don't think either of them really cared after that-- and they got 4 girls after that.
But I think my dad would have been disappointed if my brother's baby wasn't a boy, since my dad was the only boy in his generation, and my brother the only in his, so if he didn't have a boy no one would have the family name. Luckily my brother, who is one and done, had a boy.

I think probably initially. I'm the oldest, and then I have a younger sister. I think they were hoping for a boy, but got her instead! There's NEVER been any kind of animosity or anything, but we tease them every chance we get about how instead of a outdoorsy hockey-playin' boy, he got Barbie doll loving figure skaters!

My uncle was very disappointed. He's been wanting a girl before he even had his first child. He has two sons. Ha! Hubby's family also wanted us to have a girl, but we're having a boy. We're all hoping our next one is a girl though!!

My parents tried for a girl for 8 years before they had me (I have 3 older brothers). I think they would have kept trying if I had been a boy.
My ILs also really wanted a girl but stopped at 3 boys. They love them, but they always tell me and my SsIL that they "finally have their daughters" in the three of us.

DH and I were both the "wrong" gender, but our parents handled it differently. My dad really wanted a boy but when he had me he decided he was one and done...I think my MIL really wanted a girl and bonded much more strongly with her younger daughter than with DH.

My mom wanted only girls and got me and my sister, so I suppose she was pretty happy. DH is the third of his father's six kids- three boys (kids 1-3) and three girls (kids 4-6) so I figure his parents are probably fine as well.
I know that DH's parents will be horribly disappointed if we don't have a boy as one of DH's older brothers (twins) died in 2010 and the other is one and done and has a girl. They were happy about Emma, but I feel like if we had another girl they'd be sad. On the other hand, my mom would probably be disappointed if we DID have a boy. Siiiigh.,

My parents had gender surprise! Haha. They thought I was a boy. Thankfully, my mom secretly wanted a girl so she wasn't disappointed when I came out - quite the opposite, actually

I don't think so. My mom wanted a son first, but was happy she didn't have a duplicate sex for her second baby. I don't think my dad cared.

I think they were fine. My brother was born first, then me, so my parents were able to relax and not stress about their 3rd, who turned out to be another boy.

I don't think so. My parents had 2 girls and even though my dad would have loved a boy (he's a firefighter and he also flies airplanes), he loves having his daddy's girls. I am super excited to be having a son so that my dad can experience that though.
DH is an only child and I think they would have wanted a girl too, but were happy enough with one that they stopped (they had a m/c and didn't have DH until 8 years later). We started dating in high school and they've always treated me as their own daughter.

Well both our parents tried for a 3rd hoping to get the other gender (my parents had 3 girls, DH's had 3 boys) but neither got it. Both moms said they were done at 3 no matter what!
My dad just had us learn all the boy stuff: throw balls, hunting, fishing, ect. I'm sure he wanted a son but he was happy with his girls. He is over the moon right now about the first grandson being born (he has 4 granddaughters!)

I'm pretty sure my dad wanted a boy...but he never held it against me or told me that (Only child). I just watched some home movies recently of when my mom was pregnant and you could tell he was hoping for a boy.
He just took me along on all of his boy-type activities anyway! It was fun.

My parents had 5 girls, and each time they were hoping for a boy. My in-law's planned to have 4 kids, but they ended up two unplanned pregnancies with one boy and one girl.
Needless to say my parents were thrilled when I told them LO was a boy. My mom thought she cursed our family with the ability to only have girls. I have two nieces.

There are 4 of us because they wanted a boy, the first 3 are girls and then finally my little brother. I think they might have gone for another if he had been a girl.

My dad always wanted a boy. They had my sister and I and 10 years later got my brother! He was obviously very excited but when we were growing up he never acted like girls weren't good enough.
My MIL has 5 boys and like @FutureMrsMcK she always says that she finally got her daughters in my SIL and I.

My parents had five girls, and they were both incredibly happy with what they had. They lost my oldest sister as an infant, and I think after that happened, they were just happy to have healthy children, regardless of sex.

Nope. My parents had three of each so I'd say they were pretty set!
I think we were all a little disappointed when my little brother (#5) was a boy - we all thought he was a girl! But they tried again and got a girl. But I never would have thought of them as being disappointed with my brothers gender as much as being totally caught off guard.

My parents had two girls and a boy. I was the second daughter and my dad was totally disappointed! He definitely wanted that boy. My mom was happy with two girls and said life was perfect but felt that pressure. Obviously she's so happy she had my brother, but she was content before he came into the world. Ironically I think I'm now my dad's favorite.

I think they got what they wanted because they had girl, girl, boy and then my mom got her tubes tied.
