My dad was away for work 8-10 months out of the year so my mom solo parented a lot! We didn't have family nearby but she just made things work.

Yep, quite a bit. Mom was a SAHM and starting around the time I was 12, my dad traveled quite a bit for work. From age 12-18 he worked/lived about 40% of the year in a different city.. first San Francisco, then NYC, and then India! It definitely put a huge strain on their marriage (which ended 4 years ago), especially when my mom would start accusing him of infidelity on the trips...which was dumb, because my dad is too much of a workaholic to notice women LOL!

Not when we were younger.
When I was in 9th grade my dad lived in Ohio for half a year without us. We moved cross country to join him after my sister graduated from high school.

My mom did. My dad was military and went away on a navy ship for 6 months out of the year. I can't imagine doing that. My mom is my hero!

My dad had periods when he was home with us (he worked in the day) when my mom traveled for work. I think he did an ok job? It was when were were older though (like 10 and above). The longest she was gone was 3 weeks, but that was only one time she was gone that long, and she was home on one of the weekends and on another of the weekends I went to visit her with my two bffs. Otherwise she was usually gone 5 days or less, but often.

Both of my parents traveled for work. So we would have a few days or up to a week with just one parent.

Nope. But I don't think my dad was exactly helpful.... my mom would do all the work, cook dinner, etc. while watching 3 little ones.

My dad would have business trips occasionally-- rarely longer than a week, maybe a dozen times a year? My mom was a SAHM and handled all *5* of us on her own.
I don't know that my dad ever had us alone over night. I love my dad, but he's the kind of father who it was more like "Daddy is babysitting" than him just parenting, when he was taking care of us alone, if that makes sense.

For a while, yeah, because my mom moved to a new state where my dad would eventually work while he finished up his PhD in their home state. She's constantly talking about how hard it was - at the time she had a 2-year-old and a newborn, so I can imagine it was pretty rough!

Yes - my dads a train engineer, so he's on call 24/7 with no predictable schedule. Not sure how my mom did everything!

Kinda. My mom worked at night when we were little, so my dad would take care of us from the time he got off work until we went to sleep. She'd get us up in the morning.

I guess my Dad was in a different state until I was 5 months due to work! My mom frequently reminds me she was basically solo parenting 24/7 with 3 kids when I complain about DH being gone for a night or two.

My dad was in the Army for 8 years and went overseas several times. My mom had to single parent for a year at a time each time he was deployed or stationed elsewhere.
