Not usually. I remember getting SO excited when they would read to us at bedtime because it didn't happen often! Ha! When we were older we would occasionally have family reading time and dad would read a chapter book to the whole family, usually 1-2 chapters a couple times a week. That was special!

We read a lot independently once we learned to read though.

It's funny comparatively, since we make sure to read to J every day!

My mom definitely did. I don't remember my dad doing it so much. We have always been a family that reads a lot so I guess we just transitioned to reading by ourselves.

I read to my parents when I had assigned reading at school but I can't recall a time of either of them ever reading to me. I do remember that my dad always paid so much attention when I would read to him and made time for it every night. It was just assigned reading and looking back now that means a lot.

I plan to read to LO while I'm breastfeeding him from day 1. And when he's older reading to him before bed.

I don't remember them ever reading to me, but I suspect they did. They did encourage me to read though. I remember when I was just learning they always kept track of how many books I read praised me for reading a lot.

Yes, they read to me regularly. They kept a bunch of my old books and gave them to us when LO was born. I catch myself using the same inflection that my mom and dad did when reading some of the old poems and stories!

I don't remember exactly when they stopped, but I think it was in early elementary once I was reading proficiently by myself.

I don't specifically recall it, but we have pictures of one of them reading to me, and they said they did. But my mom has also told me that I used to love those books-on-record, and would memorize the record and then sit and "read" the book to myself!

They read to me a lot, and I remember reading to them as I got older. I remember reading with my mom while she was in labor with my youngest sister!

Yep. Both of our parents did. We enjoy reading to M so I'm hoping we can keep this up for years to come. I look forward to "sharing" reading duties with her. She reads a chapter, I read a chapter, etc.

Yes. I have a very distinct, clear memory of my dad reading with me and teaching me how to read by underlining words I didn't know and having me try again. I think more than them just reading to me, it helped that they modeled reading to us. I always saw them reading for leisure.

Not really. English wasn't their first language, I think that was partly the reason.

I was reading at age 3 though. I read to my son regularly and I don't think he is anywhere close to reading.

I don't remember them doing so, but my little sister and I both were (and still are) voracious readers and I remember my mom taking us to the library pretty often.
