I was chatting with some friends about how they discipline their kids (who are a little older than Charlie and Olive), and they said they believe in good old fashioned yelling.
My parents definitely yelled at me when I got into trouble growing up. Did you grow up with parents who yelled at you? Are you going to yell at your kids?

My parents didn't yell at me. Well my step mom did but she was the only one. I dont intend to yell at my kids.

Yes my parents yelled at me. and sometimes a little spanking. I think by nature (and because it's what I know) I will yell at my kids.

Yeah, I got yelled at! But I never remember it happening when I was super little, more when I was in middle school and high school...I don't think yelling at a toddler would be very effective (not that yelling at a middle schooler is very effective, hahahaha).
I don't actively plan on yelling at my children, but I highly doubt we'll get all the way through the college years without me yelling at them!

Yes, my mom did. My dad didn't really yell at us much. I"m not much of a yeller myself but my DH is so I'm sure there will be some yelling in our household!

My mom is really high strung and she has a temper- not a good combination. She STILL yells at my sister and I. Its made such a negative impact on our relationship that I'm vowing to not yell (to such an extreme) at our kids.

Yeah, my mom did most of the yelling. If we really pissed of my dad, he would yell, too.

I remember getting yelled at when I was older not when I was younger, when I could comprehend why they were yelling at me. Usually we deserved it, my sisters and I were terrors to each other!

My mom is BIG on yelling. It will probably be hard for me not to do any yelling but I am less of a yeller than she is.

Yes, they both yelled. I wrote a post about this a while back - I want to avoid yelling as much as possible, and I don't want us to take anger and frustration out on our kids, but I'm sure we will both raise our voices at some point. DH is definitely more okay with some yelling in moderation than I am.

My parents were yellers when we were growing up with the occasional spanking as well. I have mixed feelings about both, but I see myself yelling for sure.

Hell yeah. My parents yelled at us all the time (ie. when we were in trouble!). Funny, my mom would yell at me in Korean but my dad would yell at me in English. If I was getting yelled at by both of them, I'd hear the same thing twice!

Yeah we got yelled at. But certainly not until I was much much older than Charlie is! My parents would only yell if I did something where I clearly knew better and basically did something bad on purpose.

My parents never yelled. They're both quiet and soft-spoken people, though. Quiet voices were much scarier to me, and still are. Yelling makes me think the adult is losing control of the situation.
I'd like to follow the rules my parents/grandparents grew up with: no yelling/screaming at kids, and no spanking/physical punishment except for the most severe cases. I think those extreme shows of anger are better served in cases where a child/teenager has done something extreme.

Not much, but sometimes. Both my parents say they think when as a parent you are yelling at a child, you’ve lost control of the situation, which I agree with. We’ll try not to yell at LO, but I’m sure it will happen as everyone loses their temper from time to time.

I got yelled at a lot, my mom had some temper issues. She's a lot better now though.
I def want to do my best not to yell at my son, but I'm not a very patient person. I know it will happen so I won't beat myself up over it. I know my husband def won't, most patient man ever, and doesn't want me to either.
I have noticed that kids respond best when talked to on their level, their feelings understood. I want that for my son.

They rarely yelled. But we usually didn't give them a reason to. And I'm crazy sensitive so if they yelled, I'd bawl. Probably why I didn't do anything to get into trouble, I hate getting yelled at!
I'm sure I'll end up yelling at LO occasionally, but I make a point of it not to yell at people because I hate it so much.

My mom did but my dad rarely yelled. I am (unfortunately) a yeller in some situations so I'll probably yell at my kids at some point though I don't want to be like that!

My parents aren't yellers. They're more clenched-jaw-withdrawers. My dad is quiet to begin with, but you know he's mad when he gets REALLY quiet.
I don't think we'll yell either, just because it's not really our style. I hope we have a family culture that doesn't necessitate it.

I hope not to yell. My mom would once a year...my dad too. But it was much scarier if he did it. I think I'll have some self control with her but it's already hard not to yell at my DH at times.

My parents (moreso my dad than my mom) would yell at us to stop or when they were "counting to 3", but lectures were always given calmly. I know my dad had a hot temper, so he may have yelled more when we were younger. From what I remember, though, I would say what they did was raise their voices to get our attention.
