1, 3, 5, 6 yes.

2 and 4 are harder because we met on match so we chatted online a few days before he asked me for a date, and he did it via IM while chatting so there was no real "call." Also he set up two dates that first day, so 4 doesn't really apply. Although he'd asked me for date 3 before we ended date 2.

7 he didn't talk about very early but I think he knew it would scare me away. He proposed in a very reasonable time after I gave him hints I was finally ready.

I made the first move

All but #2! He waited 5 days from the night we met to call and plan our 1st date, however he sent me the sweetest text ever the morning after we met, and we exchanged texts a few times that day.

Really cool list, #7 made me laugh. We were on date #3 at a hockey game, talking about getting married and how many kids we would have We both knew early on this was it!

Nope - but mostly the first move ones that he didn't do. Which I find that pretty messed up, that the guys have to make the moves in order for it be good sign?

@beebug: That's a much nicer way to look at it. I guess I just see "free time" as time outside of work/school/other crucial responsibilities. We do like to devote some of our free time to hobbies and friends, outside each other. This was even more pronounced when we first started dating, which is why I couldn't get behind #5.

@rahlyrah: Yeah, these are pretty much my sentiments. While we did move faster than most of our friends, we were still getting to know each other, one month in.

hmm I don't think I agree with these! maybe if you're specifically looking for marriage when you're dating, but neither of us were when we met--we were just out of college. if I'd followed this list instead of my heart and my sense that my feelings for dh when we started dating were completely different than anything else I'd ever felt, I'd have missed out on an amazing relationship.

for us:

#1, is that making a move as in a physical move, or asking someone out? I kissed him first, but he asked me out

#4, he did call 2 days later, but the one-on-one thing doesn't apply: about a third or half of our early dates were with friends/group get togethers (ie, our 2nd date he invited me to his weekly happy hour with friends--it was a weekly thing we did for like the next 2 years and these are still some of our closest friends!). I was really happy and took it as a fantastic sign that he wanted to include me/introduce me to his friends. I was integrated into his social circle basically right away, and felt like he was welcoming me into a huge part of his life.

#5 and #6, yes sort of, but we were moving very fast (hanging out all the time) and he freaked out about a month after we started dating and tried to break up (I don't remember if this was within the first 30 days or right after). I was his first serious girlfriend (we were in our early 20s) and it scared him. the freak out lasted about a week and then we went back to normal, with him initiating dates, etc. I am so, so glad I gave him a second chance and didn't balk when he tried to end things!

which leads to #7--absolutely not! we were very young and neither of us were looking to get married then. I don't remember when we talked marriage for the first time, but not for a long time (we were engaged about 3.5 years after meeting)

Definitely not 7, that would just have been weird... we were young and certainly not thinking about marriage. Also I think he did one better than 4 - we spent time together one on one, but also immediately introduced me to his best guy friends and included me in his plans with them.

He's supposed to talk about marrying me within the first 30 days of meeting me? LOL, if that had happened I would have "lost" his number ASAP. Way too soon!!! You barely know someone 30 days in, even if you spend 24/7 together (which we did).

I made the first move, otherwise yes to 2-6.

1 : Yes, he made the first move. he asked me out after we had been friends for a few months
2 : called? no. texted and chatted online? yes
3 : yes, dinner and a Disney movie at the movie theatre
4 : ehh... iffy. after our first date it was a while before we went on a "real" date again, but we had spontaneous dinners together often, and our big group of friends would hang out a lot.
5 : again, ehhh... a month in I wouldn't have wanted to spend all my time with him. we definitely spoke somehow every day. in person, chats online, text
6 : yes
7 : haha!! heck to the no. 3 months in we discussed marriage. weren't engaged until 18 months in though

We had a really intense first month, so yes all of these apply. But we didn't get engaged until 5 years and one short breakup later. We were really young when we met, but we knew it was something special.

@runnerd: I agree...I made the first moves on DH. But, it was more of him trying to be respectful of me...which I find far more valuable.

Thankfully no to number 5 and number 7.

To be honest, I would have been freaked out by anyone talking marriage in a month or less--that's just not my style. It took us 3 months to even say boyfriend/girlfriend, lol. Having said that, once we got serious, it was serious. None of this "waiting to be engaged" blah blah for us.

We took our time getting to know each other and becoming serious. But then we talked about marriage, actually got engaged 2 months after first talking about it, and married 7 months after that.

All but #2, he forgot to get my number the night we met so he activated his old FB accoutn to track me down and ask fo rmy number/date. We went out several days later because he went fishign with his dad for a week, but he called me when there just to "check in" and make sure we were still on for when he got back.

This is so far from our relationship. We met in college and had a big group of similar friends so we casually "dated" for a while before we were anything official. He definitely did pursue me though and made the efforts to hang out and go to dinners with just the 2 of us and then the first I love you was at about 6 months. Talk of engagement was after college. Been together 9 years though and married for 2 so while we may have started off as a hook-up it worked out for us!

Hahaha yeah right. I was always the one to call him.
