I normally prefer Reisling and Moscato wine, which are both obviously on the sweeter side. If I'd like to branch out and try a different type of white, what should I go for?
How about reds? For a normally sweet wine drinker, where should I start?

How about a sangria? I usually stick to your picks, as well! Curious what others say!

A different white - I'd try a fume blanc. Ferrari Carrano is mid range priced and soft, but definitely not as sweet as a Riesling. Or a Sauvignon blanc - especially a sauv from New Zealand/Australia like Kim Crawford where it's a more tropical fruit flavor. Or a vinho verde - sweet and slightly effervescent. Trader Joe's has one from Espiral that is dirt cheap but super refreshing and delicious in warm weather.
Red I would go for a Lambrusco or Roscato. They are also slightly effervescent, sweeter, and just a fun wine to have with appetizers or warm weather.
If you want to try red wines that are sweeter, Cupcake Vineyards makes blends that are really soft sweet wines (with names like Red Velvet and Black Forest) that are under $10.

@gingerbebe: is right on about the New Zealand Sauvignon blancs. I started off on Riesling also and they're my new favorite.

If you're looking for something sweeter but less dessert-y, you could opt for a Rose. Merlots are also typically a bit sweeter, as are some Italian table wines (like Don Opici), but these wines are also heavier on the palate.

New Zealand Sauv Blancs are my favorite white, but Sauvignon Blanc is commonly called the red drinkers' white. FWIW, I am not a moscato/Riesling fan at all.
Reds tend to be earthier, so a sweet red blend is probably your best bet.

I would also go for the New Zealand Sauvignon blanc's, from Marlborough - Oyster Bay and Whitehaven are great. Sooo delicious. Very fruity/grassy/grapefruit-y I think.
If you want to try a red - give the YellowTail Cabernet Sauvignon a try. It's a light red. Do you have a Trader Joe's nearby? Their Chariot red is awesome, easy to drink and only $4 a bottle!

@hellobeeboston: @Mrs. J: @MrsA: @gingerbebe: I work for the NZ winery that made the world's best Sauvignon Blanc in 2012! Marlborough sav is particularly good and you might also like Pinot Gris or a Rose.

I'm normally a red wine drinker, but for whites, I do enjoy Sancerre and Bourgogne Aligoté.
If you want to branch out into reds, I think most Pinot Noir is pretty safe, not too dry, not too sweet. Red Bourgogne wines are also lighter.

@Raspberry: I was going to recommend gewurtztraminer as well. It is my favorite! It is hard to find around me, though.

I was also going to suggest Pinot noir, like @lamariniere: They were my first foray into red wine.

If you like Moscato, you'll love Roscato (basically the red version of a Moscato). It's DELICIOUS and my new favorite!

My first thought was also New Zealand Sauv Blancs. Kim Crawford, Matua, and my personal fave is Mudhouse but it's hard to find.
For Reds, something that's light but not sweet is Cherry Tart Pinot Noir.
And for a legit sweet table red Jam Jar is good. I don't have it often but I do enjoy it once in a while after dinner. Drink my dessert
If you're used to only sweet it might still take a few times to get used to the others, but give it a chance.

@Raspberry: @Ms. RV: I tried gewurtztraminer and it might be my new favorite! Unfortunately I can't spell or pronounce it, so I might have to keep my new love a secret...

Like @gingerbebe: and @Adira: said, try Roscato! I normally like drier wines and DH won't drink anything that's not ridiculously sweet and we both LOVE Roscato. It's been my favorite for the past year and best served chilled. I have introduced lots of people to it and have not found anyone that doesn't love it.
This is the one we like - not sure if there are other brands out there: http://www.totalwine.com/wine/brand/roscato

@peachykeen: That's the brand we get too, and they also serve that brand at Olive Garden, though it costs 2x as much at the restaurant!
