Hi bees, I'm a frequent lurker and have a question I'd love thoughts on! My story: I'm due with Baby #2 in mid-May, had a subchorionic hemorrhage from 14-20 weeks (no history of any issues, out of the blue and scary but very fortunate it was not large) which resolved on its own and wasn't even visible by my 21 week appointment at the MFM - the tech had to ask where it was supposed to be!
Following that appointment the MFM didn't need to see me until this week (31w) and everything looks good, but they are estimating that it will be a big baby. Where my OB's u/s measured him at 3lb 9 oz yesterday, his equipment isn't as sensitive and the tech at the MFM today estimated baby at 4lb 10oz. My daughter was about 8.5lb so not surprising that baby #2 could be bigger. The MFM wanted to see me back in 6 weeks for another growth scan and expressed concern about a bigger baby and vaguely alluded to potential issues if baby continued to measure 86th percentile.
My question is this: I will obviously talk to my OB about this, since I'll see him several times before my next appointment, but is it really worth it to continue with the MFM and keep the appointment in 6 weeks?
This isn't my first baby and I have a doula I love and a realistic and flexible birth plan, with a focus on healthy mom and baby above all else. But I worry that at my next visit if baby stays on the same growth trajectory, the MFM will bring up a planned c-section or early induction, and I'd like to let things play out, particularly since my OB of 15+ years hasn't mentioned a thing about concerns about size etc.
