I've never had a jar returned, though my mom just saves them and re-uses them to give me stuff back in so that's okay.

Nope. People forget or don't really think it's a big deal.

I don't think about returning them...maybe I should! But if someone gives me leftovers in a nice jar (you know, dinner items instead of canned jam/honey/etc), I return it then.

I always return my aunt's mason jars. She makes some amazing jelly and jams. Whenever we finish one, I always clean it out and set it aside for the next trip up to my parents house to return them.

I have never returned a jar. No one has ever asked for it back!

Some people have, but more have kept them. I always return them!

I've never given them back... they never asked for them back. I don't throw them out though.

I never knew I was supposed to give them back, but lesson learned, I will now!

I give canned jams and such as gifts often but I don't ask for or expect them back!

I have to say that where I grew up, canning is the norm and people are expected to give you jars back. Here, (and in my age group) it's less common, and people are less likely to give them back.

There are items I've given people as gifts - think jams at Christmas- when I didn't expect the jar back. (And those tiny quilted jars are pricey!)

But I've also given people jars just because I know they'd like it - to DH's parents and grandparents, for example, and have usually gotten them back.

Its nice to see fellow canners on the bee!

@regberadaisy: I have a friend who makes Christmas jam every year. She told us to return the jar if we want more next year. So we do, and then she surprised us with even a bigger jar the following year!
