No. Sorry to say, but I find it distracting.

It doesn't bother me in an ethnic restaurant. Sometimes it's amusing (not in a making fun way). In a "regular" restaurant I might think they couldn't be bothered to proofread but it wouldn't stop me from eating there if the food was good.

I don't really care one way or the other, as long as I can understand what they mean!

I wouldn't say it adds charm, but I don't judge as harshly as I otherwise would if I see errors.

Typically I find grammatical mistakes on permanent documents like a menu or brochure to be kind of half assed. I don't know that I find it charming in ethnic restaurants, but have to give props when I know it's likely English language learners since their English is probably better than my Japanese.

Hehe. I think it's cute. When I lived in Korea, I used to take pictures of all the weird translations/grammatical mistakes and send them to a friend (he would get a kick out of it), but it was so common there, I had to stop - it was everywhere! I still find endearing and so cute, especially when it comes with drawings of crying baby animals!

It doesn't bother me either, I mean, what am I going to do about it, get up and not eat there? Offer to fix the menu?

I love random English translations.

I think it's a little silly, sometimes it seems like it wouldn't be hard to find someone to proofread for them! So I don't really find it negative or positive.

What annoys me is restaurants trying to use another language to make themselves seem fancy and then spelling words wrong. Specifically I see this in the US with French (and I'm a French teacher so of course this would annoy me!). Like calling your restaurant Cafè francais or something like that

I've noticed this in some places before and it doesn't bother me. In the places I've noticed it, they're usually small, family owned restaurants run by people where English is not their first language. How could you blame them? Starting a business is expensive and I can't imagine hiring a professional translator/editor for the menus was a top priority.

However, if I see a typo on a menu or flyer for a big chain restaurant, I think that's unacceptable. For instance, I remember seeing a typo on a flyer for a popular chain pizza place, in great big letters, they got "Dessert" and "Desert" mixed up. That made me laugh in a "making fun" kind of way. I thought that was a mistake they should have caught considering the word took up half the page.

I find them endearing if they are funny (like "Happy family dish with sauce" or something). If they are just typos though, they kind of bug me.

It doesn't bother me. Everyone makes mistakes and it can be very expensive to re-print things if one typo gets missed. It doesn't add charm, but I don't make fun of it.
