We have for 5 years but this year we are walking around a garden with friends, going out to lunch, then going to 1 year olds birthday party for a different set of friends. I think it complicates things because it falls on a Saturday this year. Do you think I will regret not getting a babysitter?

Not since we've been parents! (LO is 5.) We enjoy celebrating with him.
ETA: I think it will be great! The only change I might make is to cancel on the birthday party and arrange to get together with the birthday child and parents on another day.

@teawithpaloma: don't think we ever have but we usually do something kid friendly for our anniversary anyway so it kind of has her built into it. this year we have a baby so i'm not sure how we will go about it. maybe it will be the first year!

@honeybear: yeah it's actually a lot in one day for our toddler. I need to think now! We have actually had a lot of dates this past year so I am not feeling starved to have parent only time at a restaurant or anything.

Can you just go out another night alone if you want a nice date night?
We don't always- this is our third year with a LO for our anniversary. We have gone apple picking for our anniversary every year (early October) and just started bringing her along. But this year was five years, and we have another baby on the way, so my mom came up and stayed the weekend with LO so we could go away just the two of us (the day after our anniversary). It was pretty amazing.
But on the years we didn't go out alone we just plan on a nice dinner ordered in and a movie on the couch. Because we are super fancy.

I think we have for most years. One year on our anniversary we were actually kid free all day and I spent 4 hours in DH's crappy, freezing cold truck while he interviewed for his now job. That was our one year anniversary I believe and I'll never forget it! We spend a lot of time with others so one night alone is nice

Not always. The one year our DD1 was only 3 months, we had no family in town. So we did a date night in.

I guess this really just depends on you and your SO and what you want. I would have no problem doing the listed activities on my anniversary day. That said, we aren't big into traditional celebrations, so neither of us would care if we had a "private" celebration or not. FWIW, our anniversary sometimes falls on Thanksgiving, like this year (!), and we will be celebrating with friends and family.

This year we were traveling on our anniversary and couldn't find a sitter so LO came along. It went better than I anticipated! But, I do love an evening away with only my husband at a swanky restaurant!

We've always gone out alone. One year we went out with friends on their anniversary and ended up treating them. Sometimes it's not a bad thing to celebrate with others.

@Bao: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I feel like we spend a lot of time alone with just the two of us because of where we live and having a kid so the idea of spending it with others that I care for is nice too! Also they were at our wedding so they can help us reminisce.
We aren't the most traditional in the rigid anniversary traditions so I don't think I will regret it but i will get a sitter next weekend if I feel like we still need some alone time to celebrate.

Yes, but very rarely on our actual anniversary. This year we went out a full month ahead (anniversary is today; went out mid-September). We try to do something special - a nice dinner, a concert, whatever - and if the date that happens on isn't on (or anywhere near) our anniversary, so be it! This year we went out for dinner and then went to see Once at a local theater. Like I said, it was a full month before our anniversary, but it was a special night out!

@teawithpaloma: truthfully, we picked a convenient date. Pretty much everyone is off the day after Thanksgiving, but City Hall was open!
