I refuse to have an only child (unless God willing), because my older brother is one of my absolute best friends (he walked me down aisle with Dad), and I want our kids to be able to experience that. Yes, I know there's no guarantee they'll be best buds (DH and his sister HATE ea other), but I at least want the opportunity for that to happen. DH only wants one as he is emotionally scarred by how horrible his relationship with his sister has been. But, then again that whole family has issues. In pre-marital counseling we agreed we will try for two, as our pastor was like a lot of it comes with disciplining your children (THANK YOU). Three months post pre-marital counseling and one month after marriage DH told me he wouldn't mind 3 as long as they were all boys haha.

Yes and no. DH would be happy with 2, but I want 3. But I'm willing to keep it at 2 because we can't afford more, and I want to be able to stay a SAHM. But he's open to 3 if we start making more money in the future.

@artbee: I'd like 3 (biological) too! We'll see what happens though

DH is an only child and while he enjoyed being an only child himself, he wanted at least 2. Growing up, I always said I wanted 4, but both of us are teachers, so we're not gonna be rich by any means lol. I think we've decided on 3 kids.

@hunni: Hahaha. My dad really wanted a son and he ended up with 3 girls! Hope you have at least one daughter! I love being mommy to a baby girl

We're mostly agreed. I've always wanted 4, DH would be fine with 2 or 3. We've agreed to get to 3 and then decide on the fourth.

I would ideally want 4 (2 boys, 2 girls) and my husband would be fine with 3. The only thing stopping us from either is finances!!!

Yeah, we are. We both want at least 2 and we are both open to having a 3rd.

@regberadaisy: 2 boys 2 girls sounds wonderful! Hopefully we'll end up with 4!

@chopsuey119:
I have 2 older brothers and always wished I had a sister!!! So that's why I want 2 boys and 2 girls. hehe.
My husband grew up with 2 older brothers....I'm afraid of 3 boys like them!! They are all great as adults but man the stuff they got into when they were young put all other kids stories to SHAME....

He wants 2 and I want 2 with the option of 3!

@regberadaisy: HAHA. I don't know if I can handle boys. Girls--no problem!

Yes. We both would love two but know realistically, we can only have one.

Yes, we want 2. But for now, we just want our first to arrive safe and healthy =)

Yeah, pretty much. We'll either have 1 or 2. But I secretly want more -- if only we were richer and had family around to help!

I don't think I want more than two. I'd be happy with just one. My husband wants four or five. So I'd say we don't agree anymore. He used to want just two as well.

Pretty much, yes. We know we don't want an only child, but we're not married to an exact number of kids. I'm thinking 3 or 4, he's thinking 2 or 3. We'll see what happens!

DH has always said he wants 4+ kids. I've always wanted 3.
So we agreed on 3.
LOL

@chopsuey119: We're the same as you. We want at least three, and then we'll decide if we want more. We also want to adopt, so we could end up with a very big family!

@Andrea: We're the same... DH would be fine with one, but I've said I need a spare in case one is messed up (which DH usually defines as "right-handed" since he is a proud leftie and I define as "a UNC fan"). But if we had unlimited resources, I would totally collect them all. (or maybe like 4 or 5)

@Lozza: i know, i am hearing that more and more. you can't count on one so you need another as back-up!! "collect them all" -haha, i like that!

Yep between 2-3. He thinks we should try for a 3rd if we get 2 of the same gender, I'm still not sold on this if I already have 2 boys, 3 boys seems like a handful! haha although I'm not against it if I have 2 girls though (I'm thinking because I was raised with all girls.)

We see eye to eye, pretty much. I am an only child and loved it growing up, so I've always thought I would just like to have 1. Though as an adult I have seen the relationships that my friends now have with their siblings, so that would be my reason for wanting my child to have a sibling. Of course, you can't guarantee that your children will be great friends.
ANYWAY - DH definitely wants just 1, but would be okay with 2 if I really want 2. But I think 2 would be his cut-off. Both for financial reasons and having the freedom to travel/do things more easily without 10 kids in tow
We have talked about giving birth to one child and adopting one if we are able to. That will be a few years down the road but we both really hope that we will have the means to do that.

Yup! 2 kids, one of each (if we're fortunate). If we double up, we'd try for a third, but that's it.
