DH and I have been discussing whether or not to try for a third. When it came up, DH asked our older lo if he wanted another baby. His answer was a big NO with emphasis that he only wants his baby brother. Just one of him, not two. That made me laugh and made me so happy that he loves his brother. Have you asked if your LO wants a baby? Do you consider the answer when deciding whether or not to ttc?

I can't imagine talking to my son about this. Maybe my answer is different because we are undecided about more kids at this point.

Nope, and I wouldn't consider their answer/response in TTC. Little kids don't know what all a sibling entails, for themselves or for a family. It's an entire life commitment, what my first kid wants at 3 is different by the week sometimes - I don't think it's appropriate to seriously ask a child this question. (For fun, sure!) I don't think it's that different from asking if they want a dinosaur or an elephant. Maybe they do, maybe they don't, but I don't think they can really comprehend what they are agreeing to (or not agreeing to!)

My son is an only and I didn't have to ask him, he told me he didn't want a little brother or sister.
But I wouldn't even bring it up to him, what does he really understand, what kind of disappointment would I be setting him up for?

I was surprised that DH asked, it was just a spur of the moment thing that came up because we were discussing having to register for health insurance. It's funny because a couple months ago he kept asking for a second brother but now he says he wants a dog instead.

No, kids can't comprehend the meaning and implications of such a decision by a long shot. I wouldn't seriously ask this question and definitely wouldn't base any decision even remotely on any answer.
It is an adult decision and I can't imagine giving any kid that kind of adult responsibility to take their answer seriously.. -

Seriously our kids are twins! My son said the same thing when we told him we were having a third baby. He has come around though.

We did and he would say only a little brother, luckily he got what he asked for. If you ask him now if you want another baby, he says no. LOL

We didn't when we were ttc ds2. But we do now about maybe baby #3! He always says he wants another brother like his lil bro now and a baby girl seester too
